Hi folks,

I know its been covered a thousand times, but here goes.

156 1.6TS 85K on clock.

Had new variator last August and engine was superb.
After the engine has warmed up, it is now rattling at idle, doesnt do it from cold!

Wanting to rule out that it could be the new variator.

Any tips please:thumbs:

How many miles have you done since?
When did you last check or change the oil?

Will have to check if dissapears when clutching. Only noticable when idling. Adding revs at a standstill and rattle goes away.

Done approx 8K since new variator fitted.

Oil checked weekly as it does use a fair bit.

Will have a look at heatshield when monsoon stops!!!

Just sounds like the old rattly variator. Maybe a duff new one?

Was going to try 10W-60 oil to see if that would help.

Taking it on a road trip to Paris in a couple of weeks and dont want to be a member of the 'bonnet up club'

Thanks for the input chaps

I doubt its the variator, they usually show signs of failure for the first few minutes from cold.

Is your undertray secure and in one piece? Is there anything that looks loose/damaged? When mine rattled it was the bracket that secures the airbox to the fusebox in front of the battery, it had snapped and the airbox was moving around a bit.
