my dealer only has 5w-40 oil in stock. i know the manual states 10w-60. just like to find out if anyone here uses a lower weight oil for their JTS (156, GT) and your comments. I know it may affect consumption but i intend to change the oil every 5000km as i do a lot of town driving. I'm now at about 2000km and the 5w-40 oil is still at max.

i think you can also use 10W-40 semi synthetic for JTS engines.

The only oil spec'd for normal climates in the 2.0JTS is the 10W60, so use that.

It is up to you is you want to use something different, we can't stop you.

Personally I cannot see the 5w-40 doing any harm..

It works fine in a TS and the TS is a very similar engine.

Plus I feel Alfa only specified the 10w-60 to help control oil consumption, and help prevent warranty claims on failed engines..

I can also see the arguement of following what the book says, but when did Alfa get everything right? Look at the original 72k cambelt interval as an example.
