Can anybody answer whether when the Engine Management Light comes on does the Selespeed Light flash as a matter of course to let you know you are in limp home mode?

Basically has anyone with a Selespeed had the engine management light eluminate without any effect on the selespeed system?

Need a selespeed expert I think

It all depends on the actual engine fault,if it has no bearing on the operation of the selespeed then it won't.
If for example you have an engine temp sensor fault,then the selespeed isn't affected so no flashing selespeed fault.
If on the other hand you have a crank sensor fault,the selespeed cannot read engine rpm so (depending on severity) it may flag a fault.

Depending on severity? Just asking as my problem seemed to be intermittent but then grew steadily worse until now where it goes into limp mode everytime I tough the accelerator. Yesterday actually I started the engine and the throttle was unresponsive initially until I put the car in 1st. It then reved as normal but the fault showed up again.
I have got a diagnostic cable arriving soon but just trying to pick people brains in the mean time.

my eobd light came on, on my sele, after i had removed the battery, and in doing so i knocked the air intake pipe , causing a bad reading. sele warning only flashed at start up. eobd light went of after a couple of days after i had re-aligned the pipe. (advice- take battery off and really clean all around the actuator and contacts, switches and sensors. it surprising how easily they get compromised by crud!)

Paulo is exactly right ! Selespeed is all about electrical connections, sensors and relays,
start with the condition of the battery and work your way through relay and actuator contacts and switches... clean them as good as possible ! contact spray works miracles.

Ah thanks guys. Will have a look on Friday. Need to get in the engine bay as it's a mess, airbox is unsupported and the wheel well is not there so got loads of road salt spraying in. Maybe a good clean n check of connectors might do the job.
Weird how when I am in neutral and stationary pressing the throttle it sends it into limp mode.

Right guys. Not suprised there is a problem with the car. Took the battery out and there are lots of things that dont look pretty. Metal plate which hangs off the air intake was not supported underneath (I believe the selespeed 20 pin connector is hung off of this too so would be bouncing about.
It looks like there has been a problem with the car before and its been put back together without any care or attention.
Going to clean the throttle body with some carb cleaner, I need to source an airbox as mine is split at the top...is there an induction kit for the 156? Might be easier tbh.

Oh and can anyone tell me how to disconnect the 20 pin selespeed connector. Cant figure out how to split it???

So got the car hooked up to Alfa Diag, (still getting to knwo how to use it) Got an Accelerator Potentiometer Fault on the engine ECU and an Accelerator Position Unknown fault on the Selespeed ECU.

So looks like the AP has failed or there is a loose connection. I have ordered another one anyway and should be here 2moro. Has anyone got an How To on the replacement of this part? Or even clues as to the location? Read somehwre its up behind the fuse box somewhere...actually I guess if I follow the accelerator pedal I will find it at the end eh?

If anyone has changed theirs themselves would you mind giving me a few clues on the replacement/location and any handy hints or tips?

I think these faults are usually caused by a bad/loose connection somewhere. I'll see if I can dig out the thread...

Did you take a note of the fault codes? If so, try searching on here for those.

IIRC, the V6 throttle potentiometer is the same. It may be connected or routed differently though.

I replaced mine in a 2.0 JTS sele, presume it's the same or similar unit, will check in a min as i have a pre facelift sele outside. The throttle pedal potentiometer is housed in the throttle pedal assembly, 4 bolts holding in on and 1 elec connector, bit of a pain to get to but an easy fix :thumbs:

Edit....had a look and the're not the same, so if its a jts the above stands, if its a ts looks like it's a seperate part.

Not sure either of those are the same problem. Mine is the accelerator potentiometer rather than the Throttle Potentiometer. These are different aren't they?

Well I spend an hour or so having a poke around, the accelerator was rubbing against a cable leading to the brake switch so moved that cable out of the way and generally just moved other cables paying special attention to the AP connector (it was hard to inspect visually but just felt around).
So far so good, everything seems to working as normal, had it hooked up to Alfadiag monitoring the Accelerator Position on the Selespeed ecu...that responded correctly so after doing the exact same route as the other day when it broke and then some. Going to see how it goes and have a spare AP if the problem rears its ugly head tomorrow I can replace it.

Mucho happio right now lets hope 2moro is the same story.
