Hi, I have an ongoing electronic problem with my 2.0 Twin spark.

I sorted the blank spots on acceleration with a new MAF and cleaningthe throttle body... I also fitted anew lambda sensor.

Shortly after I had it revving out of control 3 - 4000 revs when it should have been idling. I fitted a new throttle variator - which made no difference. The garage then 'bodged it' as best they could to bring the idling to 1500 - 2500 revs.... I could live with it! Then about 2 months later I lost most of the power such that it was undriveable...... kind of 'hunting'.... it would tick over great but as soon as you try to accelarate it would die then pick up/ die/ pick up etc... .Trailered to the garage..... they said the new throttle variator had failed - refitted the old one .... in the bodged fashion....held on with cable ties.... but it was running.

Then I removed and cleaned the fuel injector relays...... wonderful ..... ticking over for the first time properly in ages.... lasted a week.... now back to the engine dieing/ pick up/die/pick up........... undrivleable again.

Has anyone any ideas..... I always use genuine parts. Diagnostics seem pretty useless.

Do you mean the idle actuator, It can't be helping if it's being held on wth cable ties. It's supposed to be securely fitted with 4 hex screws. Why did the garage need to do this. Very few bodged jobs last and won't help the way the engine is running. how are you're air intake hoses? You might need to replace the throttle body and fit the actuator properly. Also an ECU re=set.

I have had this issue too, a quick call to a breakers, got me a new throttle body & idle control valve for a few quid, i haven't had the issue since.

as pash says, it needs to be bolted down, then ECU reset... worked a charm

hope this helps.

The garage fixed it with cable ties because it was revving wildly when it was fixed in properly... this brought the revs down to a reasonable limit but it still wasn't correct. What about the issue of the revs dieing and then recovering when I am trying to accelerate....... any ideas.. The throttle body is now secured properly but to no avail.
