Dont often check my hotmail email, but did earlier, oh dear, hundreds of AO emails, how do I switch that bit off please?

i need to do this too, i think its a subscribed list

Go to "Profile"

Then "Edit Options" from the drop list

the third box down is "defalt thread subscriptions mode" ................. Use the drop list to select "No Email Notifications"
