My 1.6JTM is showing up problems with the EGR filter being clogged. Has anyone used Wynn's diesel EGR cleaner? If so where did you inject it?

If it's an aerosol it needs spraying into the air intake and it will be taken through the combustion process then onto the EGR.

Snake oil I would guess.

The only way to clean the EGR system is to take it apart and scrape all the crap out.

What sort of problems are you getting with the EGR valve ? Fault codes ? Erratic running ? Eml light on dash ? I did try spraying the additive in the air intake but I think the best way is to take it off to clean/replace or just blank it off and remap with more powerrrr !!!!

Engine management light on stopping it going into Dynamic mode. Took it to dealer and the fault codes showed EGR valve fault.

P0488 Fault code ( EGR valve position )

Hi , had this fault code pop up a couple of times in 6 months on my 1.6 jtdm . local specialist garage cleared it last time( 6 months ago ) and did a forced regen for £91 ! so bought multiecuscan for 50 euro and an elm325 lead so can do it myself now in 10 min ! question is ; has anyone had this code P0488 before , and how did they fix it ? could it be just replacing the egr valve ? thanks , mark ( copy and pasted this from a previous thread I made last year , although had no replies ! )

If someone could tell me please what to take apart to spray it in I would give it ago. The reviews of the spray are good.

It was a few years ago I tried the spray but I think it was a mater of just taking the air filter out and spraying it in the air intake on the left hand side of the engine bay , engine running ! Instructions should be on the side of the tin , although got to say it didn't help fix my Egr valve in my case !

Google Alfa Romeo EGR valve and have a look at the pictures. Once you can find that under the bonnet it's simply a question of removing the bolts and taking it off.

I'd scrape the crud out first, then use the spray to get it nice and shiny.

Should be a half day job at the absolute worst.

I think, from reading your replies, you seem to be a "little" out of your depth. You really need to take the car to someone who knows how to remove, dismantle and clean the EGR and the associated work involved. I doubt the spray will cure the issue with the car it's not a magical elixir, you, or someone has to get dirty.

The estimate for half a days work is a little bit of an exaggeration:biglaugh:, but it is a couple of hours if you've never done it before, 45 mins if you've had it apart more than once:biglaugh:

All EGR's look similar, (look for an image online) all are located near or on the inlet manifold of your cars engine and are usually held on by a few bolts, most of which are accessable.

Youtube is the place to go and watch a few videos. There are over 2600 results for Mito EGR. There is a sticky in the 159 lounge.

Let this be an end to all this nonsense :vs_lol:

Fitted at the rear of the engine roughly behind the oil filler cap ! Difficult to see ! Only a couple of bolts and an electrical connection but you are working blind so very awkward more than anything !
