Hello,I am considering fitting an ecotek valve to my 1.8 16v,having heard good things from a mate who put one on his CRX,(oo-er Japanese,I feel an ARNA moment coming on).Anyway what are they like on 16v's please? good things would be welcome but do feel free to call me a fool if you've found them to be of no benefit. eek! :D

Is that one of those things you put in / around your fuel line that claims to increase economy and power blah blah blah? If so, I don't reckon I'd bother. The economy bit comes from the fact that you drive round carefully, trying to see if you economy improves, and the power bit comes in two weeks later when you get bored of trying to see if your economy has improved and put your foot down!!

The general opinion on here is that they are crap. Someone on the forum actually offered two free as the only benefit he found when fitted (to a V6 or something) was........NONE.

The buzzing and wooshing noise you get is a nightmare apparently and if they were good, they would be fitted as standard by the car manufacturers to lower emissions and increase power output, which is what these things claim to do. They might be of benefit if your car isn't tuned properly and is running rich. But then you'd be better changing the airfilter, plugs and leads.

Dave Walker did a test of these things for CCC a while back. His conclusion was that as measured on the rolling road on the day, it made zero difference to the power, economy, drivability etc etc etc. The only thing that was affected was the wallet of the purchaser and the noise levels inside the car.

There is always an element of psycology with these things. We pay good money for them so want it to work.

Until you measure it, you can't prove anything.
