Ciao forum,

I have a 2007 Alfa 147 with Selespeed transmission. Has done 60,000km, and have had it for 12 months.
From the start, and to this point, the only fault code/error I have received, is a BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH fault, which I cleared, and would return.

A few days ago, when stopped at a set of lights, the box dropped into neutral. Problem was, I couldn't get it to push back into first. I turned the vehicle off for 60 seconds, back on, and was able to engage first gear. Would get to a set of lights, and the same thing would happen back to neutral, and stranded. All other gears operate correctly.

Also note that when this occured, I received a RIGHT FRONT LIGHT FAILURE on the dashboard.

Am just wanting to know whether, in your opinions, is this a transmission problem, or is this indeed a problem with the Brake Pedal Switch? Can a problem with the Brake Pedal Switch make the transmission play up in the manner it did, or is the Brake Pedal Switch just causing the RIGHT FRONT LIGHT FAILURE, and I have a separate problem with the transmission?

Thanks.

Not sure if it's a similar issue, but in case it is...
If i'm stopped at the lights in mine, without my foot on the accelerator, and enough time passes i'll get two beeps and it'll switch into neutral (presumably to save petrol). I won't be able to switch back into gear unless I have my foot on the brake.
Hi greyscale, thanks for that.
I am pretty sure that is (as you mentioned), just when you leave it sitting in the one spot for too long - mine does that also when I am stuck at a level crossing, with trains pushing through for three or four minutes.
This was entirely different in that it was doing it as soon as I pulled up to a set of lights, and I couldn't engage any other gear. I was totally stranded.

Had the BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH replaced, with a second hand one (only one the mechanic could source that day).
Was able to drive the car 35kms, and same problem returned. Was stuck on the highway, in neutral. Took it to another mechanic, who claimed there was another BRAKE PEDAL SWITCH fault, so he has begun by putting a new one in.
Am picking up the car this afternoon, but am worried about taking the car too far from the mechanic and being stuck again, so will do numerous laps of the mechanic's block tonight, and let you all know how I go!
