Just got back from Yorkshire, everything was fine with the car.

the MRS drives it around the corner to get some fuel and the messgae "Check daylights" appears on the display, and there are no daylights or side lights working.

I have had a look at the fuse list in the manual but the fuse for them isn't mentioned on the list.

Does anyone have an idea as to where I should start looking for the fuse or another problem?

The cars MOT is due in a months time, so will need the sidelights for that. :(

I have MultiECUscan so can hook the car up if needed.

Many thanks

Quite right, the manual does not list a fuse or fuses so I'd try those listed for 'various' devices on several pages and see what happens. Also try disabling the DRLs in the menu, turn ignition off. Turn ignition on and try re-enabling them. Might work!

I did look through the fuses, and all seem ok.

I have also tried all of the other electrics and they all seem ok.

Both sides not working, will try the on and off in the menu. Nothing to loose...

Edit:

Right, I have tried that and no joy.

When switching the ignition on the driver side lamp flashes on and off for about a second then goes off. The passenger side just stays off.

I might try plugging the car into MultiECUscan and having a look to see if anything shows up.

It might be the control unit for the DRL's, I assume it is in one of the lights?

I was only saying on another thread yesterday about how reliable Alfas have become... :(

Plugged into MES and I get the message Side light feedback and DRL feedback.

Faults are present but they won't clear.

This is going to be expensive I reckon. :(

Ive had a look at various sites, including AO. Apparently it could be control module but also if one flashes that shows it is working but shuts down as the other one is at fault, so could be passenger lamp at fault. As bumper seems to have to come off to change the whole lamp assembly it is quite a faff. Any chance of getting a lamp assembly to try it out. I have spare lamps which I bought from Cue2 but as I'm Kent/Surrey/London borders a bit far for you just to try one/both as an experiment.

I did have a couple of spare lamps, as I was planning on changing the silver inside versions for the darker inside.

but as we decided the Mrs was going to have the G, I sold them.

Sods law. :(

I will have to have a look to see if there are more on ebay. Trouble is they might also be dodgy.

I will have a look.

The problem is that if I buy a used one it may have the same issue, or suffer it relatively soon.

It does look like it is the passenger side light which has failed, judging by other threads.

I suppose if I did buy a used unit and it didn't solve the issue I could always sell it back on.

But like I said you never know how long a used unit would last.

The cheapest I can find a new light is ÂŁ157 from Carparts4less.

But two problems, firstly the listing does say chrome inside, but the picture is of one with the darker internals.

Secondly they are a PITA when it comes to returning stuff, so I don't think I am going to risk buying something like that from them.

Yes I had two years trouble free then the problems started.

I think I am going to get a light from ECP locally click and collect. It will give me a chance to return it if it doesn't fix the problem or has the wrong colour insides.

ÂŁ167 :(

It is daft, stupid design.

But then there are a few bits on the G which were not designed to be easily fixed or repaired.

Might do a post mortem on it if I get time once it's changed.

Sorry to hear your news Symon.

I doubt if the LEDs are serviceable on any car out there . At least the parts are more affordable than most. A colleague with an A4 needs to replace both tailamps on his car at a price of ÂŁ500 plus because of failed LEDs.

Right, an update.

I picked up the new lamp today. I have plugged it in and everything works, so the light was indeed faulty.

Will fit it at the weekend.

Thanks for the help everyone. :)

Thanks Cue.

Yes it is getting daft now. Things that make a slightly older car less reliable or more expensive to keep on the road will just hurt residual values in the long term.

My dad had a Similar thing on his Merc CLS with a failed tailight, luckily he managed to find a repair kit for about ÂŁ30

I will take the old light apart to see what went wrong. If it is a single LED or something daft I will be annoyed as I have loads of them here, and I am quite handy with fixing electrical stuff.

The new light from ECP is a Magneti Marelli, so probably original equipment rather than being a pattern, so if anyone else needs one... They only do the lighter internals versions though I think.

I think they act as sidelights when the normal lights are on. As they come on but they are dimmer than normal.

Whether the MOT tester would pick up on it is another matter though.

Old post, but you are correct. You don’t have to have drls, but the lights need to have a second light source to act as a marker light should one of the main headlight bulbs go out.

on mitos they use a dual filament halogen lamp, 21w as a drl, switches to a 5w sidelight filament when the headlights are switched on. If you disable drls the 5w sidelight filament still illuminates when the headlights are turned on.

Giulia? Mine were for a Giulietta. I can't remember the part number unfortunately. There are different ones depending on whether you car has silver or grey inserts in the lights and whether your car has HID or Halogen bulbs.

I found the descriptions on ECP quite accurate and I did a click and collect to make sure I was getting the right type before I paid...

Thanks for the rapid response!

Do you know if it its still plug and play with a used unit?

i saw a vid that you take some screws out of arch one that holds the bumper to the arch and two large torx and you can squeeze it out without to much faff, but in the video the guy mentions you may need a proxi realignment (assuming this would be for xenons?)

Hopefully i can just slide this used unit in and it will plug and play like your new one!
