Mark mentioned the abysmal state of education as one of the biggest drivers. We still do not have enough students graduating with maths and science. Having been a victim of poor workmanship and outrageous prices for normal service (which we generally laud as wonderful), I have started collecting manuals and become progressively more daring with the repairs I'm tackling.
My question to my fellow Alfisti is: what are doing to prepare yourself for the end of good workmanship and accountability?
