Coming down the M6, noticed a jolt in power, then the engine light on.

Now the throttle response is appalling, seems to be a massive delay in getting any power after pressing the pedal.

The 2 relays (main & fuel pump), and the 2 fuses (one is for the MAF) in front of the battery have been completely replaced, I stitched in some new sockets from the dashboard of a scrapped Bravo. The crimp connectors I used don't seem to be much cop. I've had to loose the crimp and solder the main relay. I suspect the fuse driving the MAF now has a failed connection, going in with the soldering iron tomorrow.

Do the symptoms match anyone else's MAF failures?

It does match a MAF fault, though it also matches a coil pack or spark plug failure, shame your so far north, I'd plug it in and find out what happened for you, as well as get a pick of the twins together (yours is the 3rd 146 I know of in Blue Velour).

It wouldn't be the throttle body jammed as in the ICV being dirty, but it never gives a mgt light in that case, just a really lumpy high idle constantly.
