Hi Guys,
serious question , does the ECU need to be plugged into the car to be completed?
Is it just a map which is applied to the ECU? or is it a purpose build algorithm for that engine only?

The reason I ask is....remapping in Australia is upwards of $1200AUS and I'm reading that in the UK it can be as cheap as 150Pounds.

I'm travelling to the UK in the next 2 weeks and I could bring my ECU with me and Have it remapped etc while I'm here. Then replug it back into the car upon my return and all is sweet.
I'll blank the EGR and delete the DPF for good measure..aswell.

Is this scenario possible...any thoughts appreciated... :squareeyed:

they can do it mate if they have another alfa to plug your ECU into, Autolusso will definitely be able to remap your ECU if you post it to them
btw 800 euro is a **** fortune just for remapping the car, do you live in El Dorado?

Every engine differs, every sensor there as well, every bit is in different condition, thats why IMHO ECU tunning should be done by specialist on dyno, and tunned in a few steps, mesuring AFR, EGT and setting all to still leave enough headroom for other outside conditions or better/worse fuel. Also things like slips of clutch or two-mass wheel vibration coudl be spotted in the time at dyno, and some corrections made to ECU to keep all safe for your car. With loading ready ECU map and not examining results correctly, surely you will gain extra BHP/Nm, but God only knows how long your engine/clutch/two-mass wheel will last, and if the car will run OK from day one.

I have a few years experience as user of tunned cards - my former 159 1.9JTDM was made 190BHP/380Nm, then I tuned my wife's Giulietta 1.4TB to 147BHP/265Nm, and recently my 159 TBI was made 240BHP/370Nm. Each time by specialist, on dyno, a few hours spend exclusively on my car.

With the 1.9JTDM there were some issues (common for this engine), that there was some dip/loose of boost around 2500rpm orignally, after tunninng it was corrected - advantage of custom tunning. But also not everything end up perfect - it turned that when it was below zero outside(probably egnine generated higher torque), two-mass wheel was causing huge vibrations (nonetheless it was brand new fitted before tunning) if pedal was pressed to metal at sub 2000rpms on 5th/6th gear(motorway situations, slowing down traffic, then lane clears). That needed further correction - bit of torque taken away at low rpm range. Again, my point is - every engine is individual and need individual tuning, and savigs here may be costly short or longterm.
