I have one and the laser/radar detector (but only as all three came as a package). The laser/radar detectors are useless as have no range and only tell you when you have been stung (and no, I have yet to be caught!!!) <evil laugh>
(although between you and me, there's a new system out I've been looking at for the upcoming 159 (pretty expensive tho!) that looks like front and rear parking sensors - it jams the laser gun for a second or so and then resets it - just enough time to plant your foot on the middle pedal. It actually doubles up as a parking sensor so the powers that be cannot prove otherwise.....:evilha
The sat lock always seemed to get lost whenever a gatso was about. This meant you had to keep checking to see if the darn thing was going to warn you or not. It kind of defeated the point.
The radar detecter was crap. Despite trying lots of different postions I could never get it to go off. I drove past the local detector van about 20 times in one afternoon - they must have thought I was mad (or that there were a lot of Alfas around).
The speedo display was ok but made me paranoid and I ended up slowing down too much when passing a camera, just like standard road lemmings do.
It was a pain to have to attach and detach it all the time. If you leave them in place people smash your window and nick them.
Finally and most damningly, it gave a cheery welcome when I turned on the ignition and I hate that fake bonhomie at 7am in the morning.
Good riddance to it... <phuthooy>
Oh yeah, and they don`t work for the most troublesome detectors which are cops with radar guns or unmarked cars. If you get caught by a gatso you generally deserve it as they are pretty clearly marked and you shouldn`t have been speeding if you weren`t paying attention.
Just my opinion
I had a snooper, one of the old ones that looked like a little spaceship. It didnt work in any of the stupid Citroen cars i drive at work and i got caught on a camera. The spaceship was all plugged in but its light was still red searching for a signal
I have an old tyre and a can of petrol. If I get caught I fill the tyre with petrol, hang it on the camera and set light to it, thus destroying the evidence.
Only kidding.
I try not to speed in the first place.
I have a radar detector. I think it's about time I got a Lidar (laser) diffuser too.
Last speeding offence was May 2005 on an otherwise clean licence- 87 in a 60. Was given a conditional offer to accept a fixed penalty by the nice police officers
I have 2 different types. A GPS / Laser combi in the shape of a Road Angel Plus. Wire free which is cool. Database is a bit lacking in terms of mobile sites but it will be fully featured withing the next 2 or so weeks.
My SATNAV also has a camera database, loaded as POI's off www.pocketgpsworl.com for £20 a year. It's very comprehensive and works in conjuntion with the maps. Also used this in Europe as the RA+ is illegal due laser detection being illegal.
I remember the story (urban myth?) of the Harrier filghter pilot whose attack warning system picked up a laser signal from a speed camera (hand held) and thought it was a missile lock.
That activated the plane's on-board anti-radar system and only a quick action by the pilot prevented an automatic launch of a HARM missile, designed to take out the "enemy radar" system.

Don't touch anything that stops a laser lock on your car if they can't get a lock on your car it is flagged speeding or not if it happens a second time you get a visit from some gentlemen with a flat bed who confiscate your car to find out why & ask you some interesting questions they find a jammer or defuser in the car & it's interfering with police equipment line of duty etc only way of getting away with it is having a garage door opener & the garage door equipment as well although I don't think that has been tested in court yet

I remember this in the paper at the time was some forign jet over here & was a radar trap at the bottom of a hill looking for cars cresting the hill speeding
Well, in Portugal is illegal to have a speed camera detector and the fines are heavy if you're caught with one. So I use my mobile phone with GPS and a pinpoint file to warn me about the places where are fixed cameras and the places where police usually hangs them.
