I am debating whether to pay out to have my Alfa sorted or part-exchange/sell. Is it worth spending this money on? What money should I be getting for it by selling or part-exchanging?

2004 (53 plate) 156 JTD 16v Multijet Veloce - Black, tan leather, 17" alloys, 63,000 miles, recently passed MOT.

The cambelt has already been replaced.

The situation now is that there is a few issues that need looking at which I believe will add up to a fairly substantial cost (around £1,500 - 2,000 apparently).

Air con isn't working. This isn't just a case of re-gassing. Can't remember the exact issue off the top of my head but it was a few hundred quid job.

Intermittant wiper is not working. It only works on the constant full speed. New steering column?

The radiator needs replacing imminently.

There is an oil leak somewhere, it doesn't seem to be losing much oil but don't know the cost of fixing.

VDC light comes on after about 10 minutes of all journeys.

2 tyres will need replacing soon.

If part-exchanging I could claim ignorance on the radiator and oil leak and could suggest that the air-con may just need re-gassing. I'm not too comfortable about doing that if selling privately.

Your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks

DO not sell. the car is worth far more as the JTD 16V as probably the most desireable of all the facelift engines due it being the most reliable and still making good power. You jobs don't sound to much. Go see Loz at Autolusso Bournemouth. He'll sort you out :) .

Nothing too disastrous there. Radiator is about £250 fitted at a specialist, good tyres are £130 a corner, and the intermittent wiper could be various things but I would have thought the stalk which would be fairly cheap.

Where in Dorset are you?

Edit: Joss has beaten me to it with the recommendation.

Unless you're after a change, then in my opinion it's better the devil you know.
Buying another car will only be buying someone else's problems.
I think your probably right.

Cheers guys. I actually live about 5 minutes away from Autolusso and I had no idea it was there. I've used Italian spares and repairs in Poole before though. But I'll give this one a go I think.

Appreciate the comments

I can certainly help you out with all those bits - she's definately worth keeping. It won't be anything like £1500 judging by what you have said.

The wiper issue is most likely the wiper unit itself, I have a decent used one on the shelf and they are not dear.

Give me a call on 01202 861699 and I can have a look over it and give you a price to do everything.

VDC light is likely to be a steering angle sensor failure - I've recently been through this problem with my own 156 16v JTD MJet. I bet the light mostly comes on when you get to a very straight section of road ;)
