Hi all,

Been looking on here for a year or more and now find myself in the position to buy a 159 ti to use in my daily jaunt along the A3. I will be having a diesel, but can I seriously justify buying a 2.4 with all the fuel economy, insurance and running costs that implies, simply because it has a bit more pep and.......erm.......2 exhausts?!

Please tell me I'm not the only person on the planet for whom one isn't enough anymore?!!

(or at least make me feel better!)

Anyway,

Top forum, very informative and friendly as far as I can see!

Hi Rich

You won't regret owning an Alfa. I moved away to an Audi TT, but managed one year before I bought an older Spider to keep it company. As for fuel economy I previously had a GT 1.9JTDM and I averaged in 3 year 42.6mpg nevey quite got it to go above 50mpg, this has improved now as the engine has been tweaked to give more bhp, more mpg and reduced emmissions. For 3 weeks, whilst the GT was in the garage, I had a Spider 2.4 JTDM and that managed 40mpg. The 1.9 was a good engine, but the 2.4 was really strong and smooth over all the rev range and a bit nicer to drive. As a reference the TT Tdi is currently averaging 45.6mpg and my best figure out of it so far is 56.2 mpg. I was very happy with the 1.9 and if you want economy you will probably want this engine, the car will still be nice and quick!

Meh....2.4 it is then! It won't drink any more juice than my "temporary" Octavia that occasionally fires on a mere 3 cylinders and handles in a similar manner to the QE2.
Thanks for your advice and introductions......look out for me grinning from ear to ear cruising around Hants and Surrey.

Picked her up on Saturday morning - Haven't stopped grinning either - I HAVE stopped smoking though.....I figure the £7.30 a pack can go in my tyre fund because I'm sure going to need it!

First impressions after a mere 300 miles driving are:

Firm ride, but great seats more than make up for it.
Decent power delivery (will be better after remap/DPF removal)
Heavy clutch in traffic
Stunning good looks kind of override any stats a BMW/Audi owner will throw at me!

I love it! :p
