Hi guys

i just bought some 18 inch alloys and they have

2x 215 35 18 and 2x 215 40 18 tyres, is his ok? would the 35 be on the front and the 40 on the back,

ive not come across mixed tyres before?? any reason why they would be?

cheers Jon

Its not ideal having different heights but cant see it causing and harm. You should probably be going for 225/40 18 so i would put the 35s on the front and ware those out first. When they need changing put some 225/40s on them and stick them on the back and wait for the 215/40s to wear out.

Well thats what i'd do anyway.

hi guys thanks for the replys ( i will post pics of the alloys soon, they need a refurb but enjoyed doing the last ones, then i hit a large pot hole and crack!

you should have all 4 tyres exactly the same size on your car.

should??? lol! so is it safe enough or do i have to change them? i was thinking of doing what cgc suggested

Different diameter tyres will be confusing the hell out of the ABS system...

I doubt it will as, when not in a straight line, the wheels all turn at slightly different speeds & the ABS doesn't get confused. The ABS sensors are really for braking, sensing when a wheel is 'stationary'.

Gold Cup ran 255/40s on the rear & 225/45s fronts on std 17" Teledials, without any problems.

Only 2mm difference in diameter between those sizes.

However, there is 21mm difference between 215/35R18 and 215/40R18.
