Without hearing the car, its difficult to tell. Does it sound the same as it did before? The reason I ask is I had a cambelt go on one of my old cars and that turned over, but the sound was different because it had no compression.

Just read your post again. No ignition lights? Forget the last post. Did he check all the fuses? There are a series of fuses dotted around the car. The relays in front of the battery are a bit crap as well. If one of those connections has come loose it won't start either.

It could be a fault with the ECU. Did the fella you had round detach the battery? Try detaching the battery for a while then try and start her up. You never know. I am sticking with a fuse or relay problem!

If its the TSpark 2nd phase engine it should be on top of the throttle body. You could detach the leads off that aswell. It can't harm it, you never know.

You may fall out with Alfa Romeo's from time to time but you know what, as soon as I drive mine I fall back in love with her! ;)

To get a picture up just go to your account and add the avater from your pictures.

Hope you get it sorted, sounds like an electrical prob rayther than a mechanical so may be a pain but might not be too expensive! Do you get no ignition lights at all? does anything else electrical not work?

To add a pic go to the top of the page click on profile then edit avatar, you can upload one frpm your pc.

Palm trees in Sheffield?! Good luck hopefully its something simple, do you have an independant Alfa specialist nearby, they might be a better bet?

BTW does the code light come on and go out?

Sounds again like the crank sensor problem on these engines. The ECU does not sound at fault - not fault codes, and its priming the fuel pump.

The crank sensor rarely shows a fault code. Ask your mechanic to take a look at it, it is under the starter motor near the flywheel. One bolt will remove it. They are about £13 for a new one and will take 20mins to replace.

This sensor is the cause of 90% of all non start electrical problems on these engines.

Hope this helps.

Surely if it was the crank sensor the ignition lights would come on, if the code light isnt coming on then going off the imobiliser is likely to be stopping it from starting. I think there's a major power failure somewhere, or even the ignition switch itself it malfunctioning? I'll have a quick read of the manual and will post if anything looks like worth checking.

Ok have a look on the auxillary fuse bracket next to the main fuse box, theres a 10 amp fuse for the code unit theres also a fuse for the injectors check that too I think its under the bonnet behind the engine (big black plastic thing. It always worth checking the easy things first.
