Yeah I love portugal and I've been there many times. Most of the time to the Algarve, Alvor, been to Cascais, Lisboa, Estoril and more into the mountains (Monchique) @Mel: not the Monchichi, sorry mate wink .
Still planning on immigrating to Portugal. I love the language too, but it's pretty hard to learn.

Did you know about the rule (nr 15A) that says that you have to post pictures of redhead gf's after posting an interview? :D

And we are not able to post pics in this thread. Solly he?!

But if you are at the meeting in April, you'll meet her. Selespeed has seen her.

And yeah my family gets along fine with my g/f father.

We are even trying on getting sponsored by the Alfa/Fiat/Lancia dealer.
That would be really

Getting sponsored for our horses. We (my G/f and I) have horses with which we compeed. And there fore we seek sponsorship. And the dealer was interested.
So not the car getting sponsored but us and our horses (and truck).

So Deng Kao, tell us about your horses. I assume that you compete warmbloods, but what events do you do? Dressage, hunter/jumper, etc. Since you're telling us all about yourself, fill in the details. Besides talking about your equine activities isn't totally off-topic. I mean you'd still be talking about horsepower.

Too bad DengKao is off line at the moment, because the only horses he can talk about tomorrow are the 140 horses of his bella after he picked her up at the dealership.

I want to got to north and you to south... funny :) So, I see you know some part of the south of Portugal. The north is different. Even more mountains. There isn't much places with more them 1, 2 or 3 km's that you'll have it really flat, without an hill. There are people that prefer the North. Some prefer the south. I like it all. :)

Den, you really should visit the Alentejo (between Lisbon and Algarve) The sea cost is very beautiful but so the interior. There, you'll find many many km's of land. Your horses would love it! If you ever plan to came living here, let me know. I know many places that I think you would like. wink

Seems like Portuguese is difficult, yes, but you'll learn it... a bit :D :) I've learned some Dutch and I can learn more so... :D wink

Den... another thing: top altitude in Portugal is 2000m. You can have temperatures around -12ºc in the winter.

If you go to south, Alentejo is really really flat. Remembers Holland :) but in the summer... you can get 45ºc or 46ºc top.

Nothing that you can't get used to wink

We have to horses. Well actually one E-pony and one horse (1.78 Mtr between the shoulders)
It's KWPN, Not a stallion anymore wink .
We have a truck to transport the two.
Our heart is at the combination of dressage, jump and cross country. Those three combined in one competition.
The pony just turned 29 (no guys it's not me!!! :D ) and he just competed in the Z-class (single highest level) dressage and was second. 29 years! Most horses don't get halve that age!
The pony is Dutch Champion and was selected for the Dutch champions team for the Olympics. The other horse is a Concorde. Name is Lockheed, 10 years and also Z in dressage, but we are competing him in the combination as well. Both are warm bloods. The horse is a KWPN which is a kind of a breed here in Holland.
I just started riding since I met my G/F and since we got the horse (coz I am too big for the pony, duh... ) about 6 months nowand , I am about to compete the first combination in May this year. I jump, do dressage and next the cross country.

But my other hobby has horsepower too. Motorcycles. But that's on the side.

Wow. I'm really impressed. That's some serious horseflesh. Congratulations. You pony sounds like a wonderhorse, though I'm not familiar with the term 'e-pony.' Was your girlfriend named to the team as well?
As for your horse, do you mean that Concorde is his sire? If so, those are some impressive bloodlines, and a beautiful horse. (I know we're not supposed to post pictures here, but there's a great shot of Concorde with a blue cloverleaf on a red background, so he's almost a part of the AO family).
Good luck with your lessons. We'll be waiting to see shots of you from your first first three-day-event. And happy birthday.

Toronto,

He sure looks like his sire.
SO yes concorde is his sire, his mother is Renville.

Pics?!
Lockheed Lockheed 2
On the second pic, he is little bit "fat", but now since we are training him in endurance cross country, his muscles grow hard and big.
We might even need a new saddle soon.... :(

Deng,

You've got a great looking horse there, and if his knee action is anything like that shown by his sire, I'm sure he's a fabulous jumper.

As for Monique, that's a real accomplishment. The international Dutch equestrian teams are always strong and to be named to the team says a lot about a person's talent. BTW was she a dressage team member or a three-day-event member? Not that I'm trying to be nosy, but I'm a bit of a horse sport fan, and I'm just trying to figure out if I've seen her compete. Although given the lack of TV coverage (even during the Olympics), the odds are pretty slim. :(

I'm still a bit confused about your pony. I think you said that he was 1.78m, which if I'm correct works out to about 17.2 hands. That's more like draft horse territory, and not exactly what I was picturing for a pony. Now I'm far from an expert, and I'm probably thinking of a different point of measurement, but I can't get the picture out of my mind of a giant pony. :D

Anyway, thanks for sharing those great photos, and good luck with your riding.

Toronto: the pony (who is 29 years) is not 1.78 meters! laughing
The pony is about 1.60 orso.
Monique was named to the team but was unable to join. So she never got the change to actually compete with the dutch team.

The other horse (The 1.78 one) was just treated by a special doc. Let me tell you the knee action is incredible. He became very strong and difficult to hold during cross training. He feels his own strength finally. There was a rib stuck underneeth his spine. We fixed that and now he is growing and growing. He throws his legs really high now. So finally we can concentrate on becoming a real team and let him develop his moves.

But that's about the horse.

The bella is holding fine to. I'll post a 1500 km up date.

Greetz,
Deng

Ps I haven't been on lately because I am sick.
So now I am trying to kill another few boring hours of sickness.

Deng,

I just went back and re-read your post. Duh! One of these days I'm actually going to learn to absorb what I read. OK, that sounds more like pony height -- big pony height, but still not draft horse. laughing

Sorry to hear that Monique couldn't join the team. Oh, well, there's always next time, assuming that she's got the horse that can carry her into the international arena.

Sorry to hear that you're not feeling the greatest, but I'm glad to hear that Lockheed is doing better. The more I look at him, the better he gets. His dam has some nice bloodlines as well. I'm sure you've got one fine mount, and I'm sure he'll take you far.

Off topic wink it's good to hear that you're enjoying your bella. Treat her well, and don't put her away wet. wink

Feel better,
Toronto
