Hi folks. So what is the deal with 'De-cat' exhausts. Seen a few for sale, but isn't it illigal?

Can someone please walk me through this please?

AFAIK -

It depends how many cats your car has, if it breaks emissions level limits it is illegal and you are liable to a fine if stopped by the plods. Also if it breaks the limit it will not pass MOT.

I know somebody with an MGZS which is decatted but it passes MOT every time and does not break emissions somehow.

Ok cool, as I thought.
My exhaust has 2 lambda probes. Any suggestions on where to get them from, as Ebay only has one lambda pipes :(

Yup will do. If anyone is wanting to sell their decat pipe or know of a second hand one going. Please let me know.

I found the cybox decat was great for a typical Italian twincam engine gaining a raspier engine note and also a much freer revvy engine.
The cons for me were higher fuel consumption and very slightly down on performance compared to the cat.
This was fitted to a CF2 2.0ltr twinspark and tested over 6 months, worth it for the noise alone if you can live with a few less mpg's.
I am hanging on to the silenced decat for now and may fit it again sometime in the future as the car was a different animal, but it does seem to hit arounf 30 mpg now as opposed to mid 20's without the cat.

Wrong one..

Ok, done my homework and now know the benefits. I am running an 03 year V6 spider.
Interested in the cybox decat pipes on ebay (with built in lamda sensor hole)

Anyone have any comments on useing one of these on a later V6. MOT might be a problem?
Will I need to remap ECU? will I have any problems with the sensors after?
..the one you want is completely different, I think that is for a CF1 or CF2 engine.

I've got an mot legal one (a double sports decat pipe) fitted to a V6 Spider...sorry no pics. It was already fitted when I bought it & I have the original pipe(s) just in case. Previous owner said the engine management light sometimes comes on due to it but I've not had a problem, can't say I notice any performance difference.

Take a look at your double 'cats' under the car & imagine one with smaller cats.

Edit: But then I'm describing a sports cat replacement, rather than a complete decat pipe.
