ok, so I drove my wife's 147 to where she works and gave her the keys, was running fine. When she came out of work a few hours later it wouldn't start, completely dead. No lights except the air bag light, no sound of anything even trying to turn over. Even the central locking wouldn't work. My first thought was dead battery, maybe my daughter had left an interior light on.

So today one of her colleagues was going to jump start it for her but when he tried it fired up first time!!!

What could that have been?

perplexed!!

loose battery connection or a loose earth wire onto the gearbox or chassis leg.

I get what you mean and don't doubt you may well be right but why wouldn';t it have cut out over some bumps or pot holes rather than when it was totally stationary? And why, with no movement, didn't even open the bonnet, did it start again?

I'll update if anything further happens, fingers crossed it was a one off but I doubt it!

i'd also suspect the ignition switch, which can be quite easily changed :)
