Selespeed playing up and the warning came up on the instruments,
"Check Active" or something like that.. then it wouldn't select gears.
Now working fine for the moment .

Is it the pump failure or something else?

My 2003 sele always states 'check active' on the info centre during startup. Then 'check ok' I think. Or something like that.
