Hi all,

I've just bought an 2005 GT 1.9 JTD (which is lovely) and im looking at the cruise control in it.

Ive read loads of threads on here, and have got it working, however what is really annoying me at the moment is that to dis-engage it you have to lift your foot and either brake or press the cluth. Maybe its just me, but im lazy and dont want to do that.

So, im planning on re wiring the 'SRC' switch on the steering wheel to diss-engage it by taking a spur off the clutch/brake switch.

Has anyone attempted this before?

I will document this on here for others and im sure it cant be too hard. (he says hopefully!)

Yeah, all the other cruise control system that i have come accross have a cancel button that still remembers the speed stored so you can pick it up with the reset/recall button on the end of the stalk.

I was just thinking that i dont use that SRC button, as it takes a different and longer cycle around the Radios system (if that makes sense) the button on the radio directly switches between Tuner and CD.

I diidnt really want to install a new button , although this is an option.

I know it may seem crazy, but i like doing little tweeks like this.

So your willing to put more effort in to change the radio/cd but not to press the clutch down a few millimeters (the clutch doesnt have to be fully depressed), which of course your foot is always over so requires no movement?

Your right it does seem crazy ;)

I recall reading on the ICE forum that there are two wires that go from the steering wheel - one for each cluster of 3 buttons, and that pressing a button connects to different resistors producing a discrete voltage for each button that's then decoded by the radio.

So theoreticaly it would be possible to put some sort of comparitor circuit on it that detected the appropriate voltage & triggered a relay, but unless you want the radio changing source each time you disengaged CC you'd have to disconnect it from the radio & loose the channel up/down buttons as well.

I too wish there was an easy 'disengage but don't forget' button. Let us know if you succeed in your quest!

This is correct. The switches on the steering wheel aren't linked directly to the head unit, they're voltage based and to alter in the way you have proposed would require a conversion from volts to contact closure switch. You're better off wiring in a small switch on the CC stalk as suggested - or just use the top end travel of the clutch pedal.

Hmm, this does change things slightly, I was expecting a direct line. still never mind, thanks for the info.

Ill probably end up mounting a small switch on the back of the stalk.
