Have discovered what had turned my car into a giant paperweight. The fuel pump relay has got one very crispy looking terminal and the socket it plugs into looks none to healthy.

Just wondering if a fault like this is due to the relay being on the fritz, or is it what the relay was driving that needs looking at? Seems odd only one pin on the contact side of the relay got hot.

Have temporarily replaced it with the horn relay to get me going, but wondering if the problem is more serious.

If the burnt terminal was on the switched side of the contacts then the heat that would be caused by opening and closing (chattering) would do that, but the contact are controlled by the coil so that circuit needs looking at. alternatively if the relay didn't make good contact in its housing arcing could be the cause. I would get an auto electrician to check it out
