My 3.0 156 is making a creaking sound when I turn the steering wheel ever since the diff was installed. It does it when the car is stationary and at low speeds so I'm guessing the diff itself isn't actually the cause, but it occurred at the same time that the diff (and 3.0 engine for that matter) were installed. Its like a cross between a creaking and clicking sound. Could it be a steering rack problem?

It might be the ball joint on the lower wishbone. Get someone to turn the steering wheel for you and listen.

Diffs tend to make a groan when they have issues, whether it be due to wear or preload. I would try and get it on a four poster ramp and get under the car as above. should be clear where its coming from if you can reproduce it all the time.
