Hi All,

First post in the 166 arena, sparked off by a loud crack on the way home tonight...

Looking down in the pedals it seems that the mount where the clutch master cylinder attaches to the car has cracked. Previously must have been an issue as someone has been in there with a stick welder... Currently can't change gear and when pushing the pedal down the amount of flex at the cylinder is quite alarming!

Will try and get some photos tomorrow. Going to start by taking all the bits out and see what the mount looks like. Any suggestions on a fix? I have read on here about cracked pedal boxes, but is this the same?

Thanks for reading.

Uploaded some photos here: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B5l_ByZktzJgTmh6NUkyT3IxcXM&usp=sharing

Any suggestions?

The heat from the stick welder has upset the metallurgy of the bracket. Remove master cylinder, tape up the areas that are vulnerable with cardboard then rub off all the brackets paint.
After that grind the old welds off and fabricate a plate to lay against the bracket. I recommend getting it BRAZED into place using a small gas torch. If the repair plate is made long enough you won't get a crack somewhere else! Or cut a bracket off another car and get fabricating!

Thanks for the advice, particularly with the brazing! Now to actually start work...
