YEah don't bother with those comparison websites, they actually add money to the premium to make their profit. You'rebetter off going to a handful of insurers websites or ringing a few numbers in the back of the Autotrader (many there who specialise in youg drivers).

try adrian flux or cis, or even norwich union.

my first car, 1.6 ford orion, at age 20, just after passing test was £1365 fully comp with cis. only 3 years ago, so give it a go.

Re: Confused.com is aload of ****

I tried several comparison sites recently, including Confused, Gocompare but must say that TescoCompare came up far superior. They do of course rate their insurance highly but cut through the crap and you can find a good deal. I saved just under half, compared to my AA renewal quote. Give 'em a try. I am old though, with a few years no claims too.
PS I do not work for Tesco!

Confused.com saved me over £300 on my insurance and, as it turned out, it was with Admiral. I tried Admiral multicar when my wifes insurance came up for renewal last week but they couldn't get near the quote she already had. Each insurer concentrates on an area of the market so you really do need to spend the time shopping round to get the very best deal. Admiral seem pretty good with cars in high insurance groups as my dad has his group 18 406 Coupe insured with them and they have consistently been the cheapest for him.

Corsa's have that boy racer appeal Gavin, especially a sport, and being a 1.4 and not a 1.2 is going to add 1000's!

My brother wrote off his 1.2 16v Corsa and got a 1.8 Volvo. They still actually charged him less for the Volvo, even though it was a 1.8 and even though he now had a crash to his name, than the reknewal he got for the Corsa just a few days prior to his crash!!

If you got it cheap of your brother, sell it and get a 145, its what you wanted anyway ;) :D

It does all depend on the car mate as Dan said, when I had my Alfa Romeo 156 V6 at age 21 the insurance was only slightly increased from my Mondeo.

CORSA, SPORT and 1.4 don't usually instill insurers with a sense of 'people not crashing' sadly.

Good luck though mate.

 How old are you again mate? 18 or 17?

My first car was the Mondeo 2 Litre and that cost £1800 for my first year, and to be fair it's quick, one of the best 2 Litres I've driven.

You are getting mental quotes though,

Gavin, Corsa is teen-hoon "uniform" car, along with Citroen Saxo and Peugeot 106. Try something a bit more "sensible" if you just want to get mobile.

get a 33, We will all respect you more for it.

the corsa 1.4 sport is the holy grail of boy racers, They all want one and when they get one they all drive like **** and crash them.

If cheap insurance is really what you are after, try a mk1 fiat punto 55s, and do pass plus. I have never paid more than £650 for insurance, and that includes my premiums at 17 and 18 years old (i am only 22 now).

Gavin before you get the 33/145 check the quotes first.

My 33 is only a 1.3 but it costs me as much to insure as a 2L volvo.

currently paying €1200 with 3 years no claims (24)

the seat is the same size engine but €500 cheaper

Age has the odd benefit, insurancewise.:): SAGA, are so accommodating and obliging, regarding individual requirements. Very competetive as well.:):

What Ransom said. Lisa has a 1.2 Fiat Punto S60 Mk1 and it's pretty damn quick for a 1.2, obviously it's not gonna set the streets on fire but it does the job and will do 100mph fairly easy.

Lisa paid over the odds really for £750, but it does have FSH andonly 50K on the clock, it's on a 1998. For about a grand you could perhaps afford a Mk2 with electric windows, power steering etc. Plus if you got the 1.4 it would be pretty quick I reckon.

my first car was a Jag xj6 2.9 and cost me £730 tpft  but thats another story!! stay away from "hot hatchs"
An astra gsi 2ltr still costs more to insure than my THREE ltr v6 75, as does a vectra sri 2.5 v6!
Find a cheap saloon car dude, they seem to be cheaper to insure!
