Hello people!
I need to get my hands on a new clutch slave cylinder for my 146Ti. Can any of you fine people reccomend a good dealer in the midlands or a website where I might get one?
Also a question, the slave cylinder was leaking and drained itself of fluid in about a week. I filled it up and now its stopped leaking and the fluid level has remained the same. Do I still need to replace it?
First question on a similar line to cloverleafer's...are you sure it was the slave cylinder leaking and how did you know that a slave cylinder leak was definitely the cause of your brake/clutch fluid loss?
yeah, its leaking from around a rubber bush which is attached to what I believe is the clutch slave cylinder.
I noticed a oil/fluid mark under the engine bay one day, had a look under neath and could see oil in that area. Also the brake/clutch fluid reservoir was low. a couple of days later the clutch pedal went right down to the floor and was unable to select any useful gears. I looked at the reservoir again and it was empty.
Is it the cylinder? I'm no expert and would certainly appreciate your opinions
cheers
Yes, slave is dead, I meant they are cheapest from the dealer and if you have a 10mm and 13mm spanner, 13mm socket, an easy bleed kit (I like to use a bike inner tube to prussuize it) and an hour to spare then it is just that easy.
Thanks for the info guys. The guide for fitting a new slave looks fairly easy to follow. I do have one more question though.
My 146 has a an alarm immobiliser made by Secla fitted(not sure if this is factory fitted or after market). If I detach the battery will this be affected. Also I cant seem to locate the code for the stereo, will it need entering after being disconnected from the battery?
One more question, how do you guys know so much abpout Alfas? I'm finding your advice really helpful by the way so thanks to you all,
peace
The battery wont affect the alarm, just have the fob to hand when you reconnect as it may sound, the radio may not have a code, if it does though you can get it for a tenner off the net. I was an Alfa apprentice right when the TS engines came in and as such became somewhat of a specialist on them in the garage as I hadn't had my mind polluted by the Boxer. But saying that I'm pretty ofay with all Alfa engines.
Hey there, sorry but i have more questions. i have just realised i am missing the cover that goes over the spark plugs and has alfa romeo written on it. Can anyone tell me where or how to get hold of one?

Try PM'ing Richard on Alfa145.com (his user name is "lancsbreaker"). He regularly breaks Alfa 145's and 146's and always has a few cars in his yard so he's bound to have a cover you can buy off him
WAD may even have an engine cover knocking about as he does break a few as well. If not there are several places on ebay breaking. If its plastic also look for a 156/147 as they are the same, and if alloy, look for 145/155/early GTV as they too are all the same.
WAD is the best place to go in the West Mids, NJS in Pershore Worcs are also very good, similar distance but the drive there will suit the Alfa better
Cheers purple, I'm going over tomorrow so I'll try and kill 2 birds with one stone.
This forum is absolutely brilliant for a newbie like me. Thanks to you all for the help and advice
This might sound like a silly question but the 146Ti is a twin spark engine and not a boxer right? need to know because I'm gonna fit the new slave soon. cheers
hey guys, me again.
i was just wondering if any of you have a list of colour codes for the paint used on my car. Its a 1998 146Ti (S reg), its a silver colour definitely metallic.
Cheers
Finally fitted the slave cylinder today!! it would have taken half the time if it wasnt for the fluid union nut that just would not budge. Anyway, we got it done and its all good. The guide was brilliant.
Thanks guys for all your contributions
OK will have to go another route, the chassis # is not showing it up, on the left hand side of your boot lid is a sticker which refers to a number and colour name, this is the code you need for the paint, I should have thought of that one first.
Ok guys I have another question for you. My windscreen wipers judder like crazy, front and back! I've tried changing them and wiping them with vinegar and all sorts of things. is my motor screwed? Help, the noise is driving me mad. Peace
Yes the wiper motor is on its way out, you can remove the motors and open them up, clean the contacts, apply some electrolube, rebuid and refit them, this normally does for another few years as long as you catch them early enough, otherwise just get a new motor.
