Hello,
I have 156 GTA from 2002. It pass 14.500 km and it is in like new condition.
My clutch was totaly damaged and I replace it, but I pass only 350 km and again I have the same problem, again clutch is broken - PRESSURE PLATE IS BROKEN.

I don`t know is this GTA week spot or I get bad spare part. Can someone give me advice what to do?

I do not think this is a known weak spot. There do not seem to be problems with the clutch reported on this forum. Mine needed replacement at about 110,000 km (and it was not in very bad condition), I have done about 30,000 on the new clutch (standard Alfa part) with no problem.

I hope the more technical members will be able to give you some more advice.

Cheers,

Nigel

If a new clutch went after 350km, it was either faulty part or some mistake by installation. But considering your original clutch lasted only 14 500km I guess there is some other problem and installing a new clutch made it only worse.... Hard to say, you should give it to a mechanic you trust to investigate.

I've on my 5th clutch. The friction plates keep failing. I think they're the next weak link in the drivetrain after the diff. - I'm running a quaife diff rather than a q2 which I think puts more load through the clutch. This coupled with some track time = problems.

Having said that, the last clutch I had fail was in with the standard diff and hadn't done any track days. It lasted about 9 months before it started chattering indicating it had failed.

It sounds like both of you may just be hard on your clutch. Althought after 305km I'd say that was a faulty part

Not really. I think the diff has more to do with it and the last failure was an exception. I've got another QH branded valeo clutch in the gt with an open diff and it's been fine. I'm going to put the quaife back in it soon which should prove interesting.

If it goes again I will be talking to someone about an uprated version.

I also know of someone else who's had problems with the clutch letting go. Admittedly they were at Santa pod at the time but I think it's indicative of my initial argument of the friction plate being the next weak link.

gta clutch

Try CG motorsport. Sevral of my friends use them as well as myself in the remapped JTD. Very good and reasonable prices. Also got good feedback when I asked about them at a specialists. I will be fitting one to the GTA when it is due

Mine's been through 2 clutches in 40k. The first was under warranty before my ownership, so no idea what caused it. The 2nd was mechanical failure, you can see the issue below.

If you've only done 350km in it, you should be able to get a new one under warranty.

That is the thrust that broke on yours rather than the plate BN. I bet I know why as well. Someone put the thrust on the pressure plate before installing probably while messing about. But once it clicks on its almost impossible to get off. ( I know I did it on my JTD and had to buy a new thrust and cut the old one out ) With a lot of fiddling you could theoretically force it onto the fork but it would probably bend it at the points you can see are broken on yours. I'd question that with the garage TBH if you still can mate.

Either that or the garage didn't know you have to remove the slave cylinder to pull the gear box off.

You can release the bearing from the pressure plate by various means, i have a couple of spikey screw drivers thatll do the job but stuffing in sections of a broken hacksaw blade between the bearing and pressure plate fingers works too.

Yeah I was lucky once but when the DMF went about 1000 miles later it was no go!

Garage who fitted the one that broke didn't want to know and it wasn't me who had it done, so I have no comeback under trading standards. I'm confident the new one's been put on correctly though.

Thank you all!!!

I didn`t separate my gearbox from engine so I can`t tell 100% for sure what is broken .
Yesterday when clutch was hot I could not put in in all gears and after 20 minutes I had first and hardly second but in third he get very hard and in reverse ,fifth and sixth gear I could not put it.
Now I try , when it is cold and he goes in all gears and he don`t shakes when clutch release. Tomorrow I will try to drive little bit harder and I will see what is going on.

But anyway I will try to replace this clutch with someone who is more stronger, so any suggestion will help me a lot.

This might sound pretty obvious but have you tried bleeding the clutch? If there is a little air in the system the shifting usually works after start till all is cold but when all warms up and the air expands into a large airlock you cant disengage the clutch.
I was once on a new clutch that has not been bleed properly and I drove for 10 minutes and than I lost ability to go to some gears so I had to crawl in 2nd back to garage....

exactly what I was thinking. Or the slave may be leaking and so it could be time to replace it.
