Currently over in Texas and seeing loads of publicity for these Clay Bars for cleaning.

Has anyone tried them?

Are they worth it?

Or am I ok with just strong detergent before waxing?

They're brilliant, buy a few becasue you will want another one when you try it. I can promise you will love it, they will remove the stuff detergants won't.

Avoid strong detergent, it will screw up your paintwork. Stick to car shampoo's.

As for clay bars, they are good at removing surface residue before waxing. Have a look in the detailing section, you'll have more luck there and will find advice on all sorts of cleaning options.

Good to hear. Thxs. Maguiers or Mothers come in detailing packs with 2 bars I believe. Probably pick up a pack from walmart before I leave.

I find occassional use of dishwasher detergent really gets the old wax off better for a much better finish before using my autoglym wax.

Do not use detergent. It contains salt which will damage the paint. Clay bars are great, hard work but well worth it.
