Some of the Classic Car owners on Pistonheads are trying to put together an evening run during the week commencing September 13th.

Anybody else with a Classic Alfa out there wanting to join in?. The plan is to start probably around Otley somewhere then a run out and maybe finish at a hostelry somewhere.

We do want to keep it to classics though so I'd be unpopular if I dragged a load of Moderns out. So far we've got interest from a Citreon DS, E Type, TR6, TVR 390se and a guy with an old Triumph Bonneville:)

OK this has been firmed up now, details as below, hope to see some other Classic Alfas out:)

Date, Wednesday 14th September
Start point;
Public Car park on the East bank of Swinsty Reservoir about half a mile south of the village of Fewston for those clued up on these things it's on OS 104 MR198537. Directions would be turn of the A59 South down the B6451, take the third right turn and the car park is about half a mile on the left.

It's getting late in the year now, so we need to be away for no later than 19:30 so we still have some daylight, it will be dark before we finish though. Please try and be in the car park as soon as you can.

Finish is the Sun Inn at Norwood. The Sun Inn, Norwood, Harrogate, 01943 880220

The basic route plan is;

North east over the reservoirs to Sourby, North to Blubberhouses, West on the A59 to the quarry at the top of the hill, Turn off North towards Thruscross reservoir following a twisty back road. Turn NW up a nice fast road to Greenhow. Turn East on the B6265 towards Pateley Bridge down the steep hill. Turn right just before Pateley and follow the back road over Heyshaw Moor to Padside. Turn right at the Padside cross roads to Thruscross village, turn left and head south for a mile and turn east towards Menwith Hill camp and South down the B6451 to cross the A59 at 'Dangerous Corner'. It isn't a corner but it is dangerous! so be careful. So far the route has covered about 26 miles.

At this point we can make a decision either to carry on to the finish which is a couple of miles down the B6451 on the left, or take in some of the fast roads across towards Beckwithsaw on a loop of about 10 miles.

I've driven the first bit slowly today making notes and it took about an hour, on the night it will take about 45 minutes I reckon.

Yes it's been worked a bit too hard and bounced off too many hard objects. It's a long term project though, I took it off the road a couple of years back and bought the 2000GTV to use for a while until I'd rebuilt the 1750, but as is the way of these things I only got started a couple of months back. I ended up doing a lot more work on the 2000 than I planned, then had to re-do half of it when that one got bent too!... dur:rolleyes:

I'm in Wetherby, I rallied the 1750 from 2006 then swapped to the 2000 in 2009. Historic Road rallies in the North of England and Scotland, though this year I've not done much in the Alfa as I've been navigating in a Clio on modern night events.... it's cheaper!

Whereabouts are you?, the Sud looks tidy:)
