I've often wondered whether you would be able to claim on another driver's insurance if you had to put your car into a ditch to avoid a head-on collision for example.

Well, thankfully nothing as serious as that but my wife had to drive into a kerb to avoid some old codger who simply carried on coming when the gap was too small (she had stopped but had to drive in the kerb to avoid car on car contact). So, my 6 week old alloy is badly damaged and we've got the whole thing on dashcam. Has anyone made a claim against someone in such circumstances? He just drove off.

Dashcam: open-and-shut-case? Job jobbed.

Is it worth the risk of it going on your insurance though,
just for an alloy repair?

These situations are where C-SUVs come into play. ;)

I think you would win the claim, but as TT4N says it probably won't be worth it.

You will get an increased premium simply because you have made a claim whether it is your fault or not.

Have a look on ebay, see if you can find another wheel.

Have spent most of the day trying to find one, to no avail. Not even Veloces have one! It's part number 50531557, only place I can find selling one is in Germany for €400! Again, serves me right for ordering a rare factory option........
