Hi All
I am in the throws of changing my '02 156 1.6 sport-wagon which has been a great car, much loved, reliable but not as nippy as I would like. Owned it since '05 regularly serviced - what's it worth? Where should I sell it?
I want to change to either another 156 SW (1.9 or 2.4 jtd) or a GT (1.9 or 2.4 jtd) - given the similarities in the mechanicals of these 2 cars, what are the differences in living with a 1.9 vs a 2.4? How much faster is the 2.4? How much more reliable or economical is the 1.9?
Is the Brera a better option?

Brera is not a better option. Slower, heavier, not as good at handling.

156 is 1.9 and 2.4
GT 1.6 jtd only

2.4 sounds nicer although the 1.9 us very good on petrol and is just as quick if you get the right bhp.

I'd say get a 156 1.9 jtd mjet (140/150 bhp) but I'm biast!

I'm not a diseasel fan, but the numbers don't lie - the diesel costs about half of what the 2.0 JTS costs in fuel.
And word has it that in real-life terms, both are matched.

1.9 JtD has an excellent reputation.

Joss, have you been drinking early doors?

GT is 1.9 JTD only.

Don't put petrol in the 2.4!

I've owned a 2.4 diesel SW (10 valve, 140) and found it sounded much better and felt more solid than the 1.9 multivalve.

There isn't much difference in mpg between my remapped (180bhp) 2.4 and my 1.9 GT. The 1.9 is slightly better, around 44mpg on mixed roads and about 50mpg on a long run (motorway averaging 80mph).

So, not a great deal of difference really. The 1.9 is a good engine and responds well to a remap.
