Seemed strange what with Renaults recent EuroNCAP record, and compared to the likes of Brilliance's crash test that would've resulted in 0 stars.

The news story suggests is could be something like storing petrol in the tank during storage?

Top Gear blog suggests that it could be political, as the Dalai Lama was given the freedom of Paris. If this was the case though, they would ban PSA Peugeot-Citroen who are bigger in China? Most taxis, from what I see on TV, seem to be ZX or ZX saloons.

I'm sure it's nothing to do with the crash results since, as you say, Chinese cars are abysmal compared to European cars. I saw the ADAC test on the Briliance and it was shocking. I was surprised to see it was given 3 stars at the time. However, the EuroNCAP people have since made some changes to their testing and it now rates as zero stars . Give me a Renault any day!
