Usually park by Grosvenor street & hit the shops (well, herself does!)

Want a bit of a change, decent walk along the river or walls and somewhere nice for lunch. Any recommendations?

My parents have a tip, but I've never used it, because despite them doing it all the time, I just know something would go wrong if I tried it.

See the wasteland in the middle of this map:

I think it's where a petrol station used to be. If you're on the A51 on the way in to Chester, you'll see it on your right with blue fencing around it:

At the Chester end, there's an 'indent' in the fencing where the entrance used to be. They park there, for free, wander a short way north to the canal, and walk in alongside it.

Here's another possibility. The red brick paved bit you can see here:

always has spare parking, and (another parent recommendation) the cake fairy is a nice place for a bite to eat. Again, you can walk in along the canal, or for a longer walk, go along the river and around the racecourse.
