Can someone please tell me the right technique to prise the number plater bulb holder out? I've tried prising with a screwdriver (as I've read on another post) but got the feeling I was going to break something, where do I prise, at the ends, along the sides or just all over? Ta :)

Prize shorter one from one side only.
If it is not Ok try from opposite one. Nobody knows how it has been put before.
Once you have done, all next would be OK.
Number plate frame may be needed to strip also.

A Bojo bar will help. They are plastic
trim tools, with one I can change the leds in the number plate in seconds!

The edges of the bulb holder is likely to be sealed in with dried road dirt. Spray WD40 and leave for a bit. Insert broad, thin bladed screw driver or trim tool into the left short edge. Protect paint with a cloth or credit card. Push firmly to the right to compress the spring (on the right of the bulbholder) and lever downwards. The left end of the holder drops down when 2 spigots clear the bumper, enabling the whole unit to be withdrawn. Refit with the right hand spring first and it should snap back in cleanly.
