The sensor under the bonnet release mechanism has broken and shows the bonnet as being permanently open, which is causing my alarm to go off regularly.

I have bought a replacement microswitch and want to swap it for the knackered one. Having read some of the relates threads I know that the switch is riveted to a bracket, which in turn is bolted to the chassis.

I have no special tools to remove the rivet, so is there any way I can do this with basic tools?

Also I don't have a rivet gun, so can anyone help with ideas for reattaching the switch (assuming I can get the old one off!) back onto the bracket? The switch will need.a firm attachment point so that it doesn't come off when the bonnet securing pin strikes it.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I was hoping I could avoid that! I dinghies a vice and I'm always worried about drilling whilst holding a small bit of material on the edge of a table. I value my hands!
