In my opinion this is a coincidence.
The change oil light is pre-programmed and if the pre-owner did not acknowledge its oil change via OBD the software does not recognize the oil change.
So I would suggest you going to a garage and let them deleting the notice.

Multiecuscan can reset it. I have a Laser device that resets service and oil changes (2 separate functions). Just don't keep pressing the button thinking that service hasn't reset, it has but you'll use up the 'vouchers' and they'll have to be reinstated using the paid for version of MES.

It is just on a mileage counter/timer. It just needs resetting.

A lot of people don't realise that the oil change counter and the service counter are seperate, and the oil change counter is often forgotten.
