but have since 'warmed' to

For years i really didn't like Vauxhalls Omegas, never really understood them and saw them as a barge, at the time i was into 'point and squirt cars'

Years later i needed a long distance cruiser, BMWs were out, so i went and tested an Omega, was completely changed in my opinion....

2 years and 80K later i still rate them and will defend them and their total reliability

do you have any cars that you have changed your opinion?

I am sad to say I had a long procession of Montego's and Maestro's.

MG efi's...... then turbo conversions..... then just turbo's.

One day, I had a coming together with a tree. Knocked some sense into me.

I have to admit.... I still have a look on fleabay nowanagain.... in case a turbo has not completely dissolved.

Almost lost my life in one when I first received my licence.

I was doing 45 km/h in the rain. Deathtrap on wheels.

Porsche 911 ... thought it was nothing more than a trumped up Bettle (which it sort of is) but I now get them in my 'old' age ... well apart from what idiot of an engineer put the engine in completely the wrong position

Fiesta XR2's and XR2i's

Because they were all owned by chavs who couldn't drive and raced everywhere. Sooner or later they were inevitably crashed horribly.

But now when I see one, chances are the owner is one of those rare souls who has looked after their car, and they look mint.

The moral? Don't judge a car by it's typical owner.

My Dad owned one each of them.
1.5GT Avenger (quite rare, even at the time), and a 2.0ltr Granada GL.

The Granada was Daytona Yellow with, the then compulsory, Black Vinyl roof. :D

Great little cars the original XR2's, the whole idea kinda got ruined a bit with the Mk3 "i" version though.

Little bit too "Early" for Chavs though, but I know what you mean.

The Jaguar Mk2.

Used to see them driving about when I was a young 'un and found them to be hideously ugly.

Then I got a bit older and discovered they were considered 'beautiful' by car enthuisiasts generally. Tasteless pillocks I thought.

Nowadays I suppose I've warmed to them a bit but let's be honest they are still pig ugly. Actually thinking about it all of the above applies equally to the Citroen DS. Horrible looking cars, although I do quite like them for other reasons.

How dare you slate the Hillman Avenger, a more reliable happy holiday car my Father never had!!
1.6 Super Estate 4 up with big labrador in the back, many happy memories of trips to North Wales, Yorkshire and Anglia for hols.
Also had a MKIII GXL Cortina, so might have to pop 'round to teach you some respect for these classics.:tut:

Agree with the FSO and Lada thing though.:D

citroens

still hate them, in fact.
I'll pretend I didn't hear that

I never used to get what people saw in Volvo 240s and 340s. And rear engined Skoda Estelles. But, like the earlier comment about the XR2is, see one about now and they've been looked after. I will slow down and have a good look at any one of those.

As a vice-versa to this thread, when I was younger I used to love BMWs in the 80s and 90s, thought they were elegant and business-like in their execution. Now though I can't stand the bloody things and their arrogrant drivers.
