hi people, just got a new problem. whilst driving i can see smoke coming from the front underneath the bonnet. the smoke even comes in short journeys and when the car is parked after these journeys.
could this problem be conneted with the antifreeze/coolant tank because for the last few days the tank has going below the minimum when the engine is cold, and i have been refilling it with water everyday for the last few days. could it be because i haven't been adding much of the antifreeze?
i have some antifreeze at home which needs to be mix with water and i also have some antifreeze solution which does not need water, but im not sure if i can use them. the bottles show some numbers, which i think are the expiry date and if they are then their out of date. until i get the new antifreeze could i use these old ones?

any help would be much highly appreciated, cause the smoke is getting me really worried.

thank you

Sounds like a coolant leak.:(:
thats what i first thought, but i dont think its leaking because i've checked it around abit. i looked underneath the car to see if any water was dripping, but it looked fine. is there any other way to check for a coolant leak? thanx and another thing to mention is that the engine temperature is normally around the half way 90 C mark.

Could it be the crank case breather being blocked putting smoke into the engine bay or possibly a cracked manifold?! The loss of water could be unrelated. It's probably going to be letting the car warm up and see where it's coming from or stop as soon as you see smoke and see if you can spot which part of the engine it's coming from.

A garage should be able to pressure test the coolant system. But you could just whack some rad-seal in the coolant expansion tank to see if the leak/steam/smoke stops, but not everyone rates it.

Cheers,

Mark
