Morning all,

Yesterday i was going through the cars i have owned, up till now with the GTV and i wondered how similar peoples car history may be until they reach Alfa ownership?

Maybe this would be quite an interesting discussion.

My history is as follows:-

Triumph dolomite 1500TC P-reg (After this car i wanted a dolly sprint or an Alfa. I looked at and test drove 2 Alfasud Sprints. They were and still are my fav Alfa but in those days they were pretty bad and parental advise was to leave well alone! )

Ford Fiesta Ghia X-reg
Ford Capri 2.0S A-reg
Ford Capri 2.8i A-reg
Ford capri 2.8is C-reg
VW Polo coupe S F-reg
Alfa 146 ti P-reg
Honda Civic VTI-s R-reg (The best AND most BORING car i have owned)
VW Scirocco GTX F-reg
Alfa Romeo GTV 51 Plate

Probably not a lot for 24 years of driving. There has also been and still is various motor bikes in the list i chose to omit. As you can see my first love was the Ford Capri. I owned these in succession over a period of 20 years. These were always second cars and used only for fun and shows.

This is probably of no interest to anyone but you never know. if anything it is a good trip down memory lane!

What have you had?

Funny how people, me included, stay with the same manufacturer over a period of time. Thanks for taking the time to make your lists. I find them interesting. So far you can see the stepping stone to the GTV.

I love all things Alfa but doooooooooo miss my Capri's. Will have another one soon. Will sell my bike first as i never use it. (Brittish weather)

Well, I'm a bit too young to have owned a Capri - but I have VERY fond memories of my Mum's Capri that she owned when i was about 6-8 years old. In fact, I got in a fair amount of trouble when I wrote my name on all four sides of it with a sharp stone. She wasn't best pleased.

I was actually looking into getting a Capri when I was a student but they were all either completely battered /rusted etc.. or cars that had been fully done-up and therefore cost more than i could afford!

Good list, it finishes off well, Dont think there were ever any bad RS's. My brother had a nice Escort series 1 turbo. He had it on Top Gear a few years ago competing in the Auto Glym Concours Show at the birmingham NEC. Think he came second overall. If you keep up to date with the RS club you may know the car? He has since sold it now but it still does the rounds in the RS club.

I would say sos for the vectra not the Golf. sorry!

I tend to hang on to my cars til they're about knackered so i've not owned many in 20 years of driving....

'82 Ford Cortina Crusader 1.6: Terrible car really, but it took some hammer

'83 Ford Sierra 1.3!: with 1.6 transplanted from aforementioned Cortina

'86 MG Maestro 2.0 EFi: surprisingly good and quick car, apart from the rust!

'80 Ford Capri 2.0: it was 17 years old, 500 quid and the best value for money ever!

'90 MG Montego: bit of a letdown and not quick enough

'92 Rover 220 GSi: absolute go-kart handling-wise but not enough oomph over 5000 revs

'99 Alfa 145 Cloverleaf. Loved it. A lot!

'55 plate Alfa 156 2.4 JTD 20v. Loving IT a lot too! Just a few tweaks needed.....

next? hmm. It'll start with an "A" anyway (and NOT an AUDI!!)

the vectra wasnt bad in a straight line but handling wise it was shocking, the cosworth is an absolute animal, reliability is something i dont know about yet as i have only had it 2 days, doesnt look as sexi as the gtv though.

what cossie is it you've got? my dad has a few of them, the main beast being a 2wd sapphire running 420bhp :D grey 308 injectors, 3bar map sensor stage 3 chip, lots of other stuff. they really are animals though, you are right there. but yeah, the gtv takes it on looks alone....
