Not certain this will be the case with your car, but a great many of them have a circlip on the shaf that bears against the INNER face of the inner race of the CV joint. You need to feel through the grease for it.

Must confess, I was expecting this problem when I do the inner CV on mine. Not done it yet....but would expect the splines are slightly rusted together. I'd start off by trying a bearing puller to press the shaft out of the hub. I don't know how the hub bearing is constructed though, so this could possibly end badly depending on the type of bearing used, needing a new wheel bearing assembly to fix it.

Keen to hear how it goes......

....or if anyone can say what type of bearing it is. If the centre race is solid, it should be fine, if it's a 'slit inner' then there's a good chance it'll come to bits......

When I did mine the shafts just fell out of the hub :). Reassemble with some anti-sieze stuff for the next time.

The bearing has a split inner race.

However the drive shaft passes through the centre of the hub so 'pushing' the shaft out while pulling on the hub flange will not do anything to the bearing.
