Since there's a lot of interest in the matter, I thought I'd explain briefly what's up.

Alfa Romeo recently issued three Service Campaigns for the Giulia, for all engine options. Campaign 6116 is for the 2.2 diesel, 6117 is for the Quadrifoglio, and 6118 is for the 2.0 petrol.

So, what's up? Should I freak out? Do I go camp in front of the dealer right now?
Don't worry. Think of Campaigns 6116, 6117 and 6118 as "Giulia Service Pack 1": The bulk consists of software updates, for many of the control units in the car, plus a few physical checks. All owners of affected cars will be notified by mail.

I can't wait for that, the suspense is killing me! Tell me right now!
If you have a 2.2 diesel, you're affected if your chassis number ranges from 7510665 to 7539942. The affected chassis numbers for the Quadrifoglio are between 7510677 and 7537597, while the 2.0 petrols included in the campaign range from 7510836 to 7537599.

What's in them?
The three Campaigns are mostly identical, just some physical checks are specific to one of the engine options. Keep in mind that just because your car is affected, it doesn't necessarily mean you need all the updates/operations I'm going to list here. By entering your chassis number in their system, the dealer will be able to tell what exactly applies to your specific Giulia. Here's the details.

Physical Operations
  • Check torque settings of front differential mounting bolts (Q4 versions only)
  • Replace side mirror caps (some very early cars exhibited paint adhesion issues: rather than just repaint, all mirrors coming from the same production lot will be completely replaced)
  • Check torque setting of upper catalytic converter mounting bolts (2.0 petrol only)
  • Check positioning of electrical cabling behind offside front wing (Quadrifoglio only)
  • Check positioning of high pressure pump connector (Quadrifoglio only)
  • Check position of coolant level sensor (Quadrifoglio only)
  • Check for interference between A/C circuit quick connector and coolant pipe (Quadrifoglio only)

Software Updates (applies to all three campaigns, unless specified)
  • Electronic Steering Lock Module
  • Body Computer Module
  • RF module (controls keyless entry/start and TPMS)
  • Brake System Module
  • Instrument Cluster Module
  • Chassis Domain Control Module (cars with active suspension, option code SDD)
  • Adaptive Cruise Control Module
  • Front Camera Module (for LDW/FCW/Auto High Beams - on some very early cars the module will need to be replaced, rather than just reflashed)
  • HVAC Module
  • Electronic Power Steering Module
  • Park Assist Module
  • Engine Control Module(s)
  • Transmission Control Module (only on 2.2 JTD and Quadrifoglio)
  • Infotainment Module
  • Sat Nav map update

Mine was done earlier today. It was supposed to take 3 hours but ended up taking just short of 7 hours. The first 9 updates apparently went through okay, but the last 3 which I believe on mine were for the sat nav and Infotainment system had a few issues. They did another the other day and had similar issues, but eventually both were done, mine taking longer than the other one.

The immediate difference that I've noticed is the sat nav. So far it seems to respond quicker to traffic updates and also when initially selecting a route, you can now choose 1 of 3 different routes.

The only issue that I've found so far, which isn't a big problem for me, is that it's wiped out the favourites for the sat nav although previous destinations appear to have been kept.

MacGeek - quick question. My Quadrifoglio has a higher chassis number than the range you mention but it doesn't have things like a choice of 3 routes on the sat nav (which Stuart1714 above says he now gets after the update). Does that mean I'm going to miss out on these types of updates or is there something else in the pipeline for later chassis numbers?

i've noticed the mopar my alfa romeo web page thingy has a section about service and recall campaigns and although my car falls between the vin no.s mentioned above, there is nothing listed in my service campaign section for my car. i realise MacGeek's information is more "insider" than most so how long do you think it will take to filter through to the web site

I don't think mopar is upto date and shows updates promptly (if ever!). My chassis number falls in the region, so I plan to call my dealer and book the car in when convenient.

My car is in the range for this update. How long do we think the dealer (who has been excellent thus far) will take to contact me to call the car in? From the sounds of it, it will be a full day affair, so I'm interested to see what all the promises of top quality service mean in reality and what courtesy car I get given.

They wouldn't wait for the first service would they?

I'm guessing the first contact will come from ARUK asking us to contact our dealers to book in. We share the same one and I agree they have been very helpful and pro-active this far.

If this is the case then the challenge will be have the dealers been fully informed or will people be ringing up in receipt of info and the dealers aren't prepped/informed ? This happened to me recently with another brand and was a bit annoying as the car went in for a full day but they ended up not performing the updates !

I'm pretty non-plussed that Mopar's web portal doesn't reference these at all, despite the VIN being tied the account. If they're not using this functionality what's the point of the site?
I got a letter for the previous 6101 campaign and it didn't show on that website either. Pretty feeble isn't it...

Mine went in on Weds - It was initially booked in because of the excess oil warning message which cleared after a week, but I kept the appointment for diagnostics and the 6118 update.
Short version - its still there :furious:

Bit Longer Version
Weds came to pick it up @5 was told the last update was taking some time and they'd had issues with the "connector falling out" which had delayed the updates. Since there was no chance it would be ready in a reasonable waiting time and I agreed they could keep it overnight and they'd provide me with a car (I'd not booked a courtesy car as I foolishly assumed It'd be done in a day)
All courtesy cars were out so I ended up with their Diesel Tipo Demonstrator (Poor thing is possibly a reasonable family hatch but in comparison to the Giulia it's a shed) No rush to bring it back, just returnit wheni pick mine up "tomorrow"
Thurs - Garage called just after lunch and I was expecting them to say it's ready, but no. They're still "Struggling" with the updates. "It's not the car, it's their kit" and they were talking to tech support in Italy and I should keep their car till it's ready (How magnanimous!!) and they'll get back to me later. No call by my hometime so tried calling them to see what's the latest - No answer :furious:

So the current position is I've no idea what state my car is in, how they are going to fix it or when. There will be strong words in the morning when I get hold of them.

Question for MacGeek Can the update be performed by any FCA Authorised dealer (i.e. Jeep or Fiat) or must it be done by an Alfa Dealer. In either case If I have to wait for them to replace their kit I'll be telling them to put it on a trailer and take it to someone who can do the job
