Just replaced my rear discs and pads, look quite sweet sat behind the black alloys, shame the hubs rust in time and look sh*%$.

Next job on the list is the Cambelt change. Could you help and tell me how much on average I will have to spend to get the job done? presuming I have cambelt and balancer shaft belt replaced. Is there anymore belts which would benefit replacement? (57K miles). Anyone done the job themselves? Looks very tight down the side...

Any specialist around the Oxford area or down the South West (Yeovil) which the club would recommend to get the work done?.

Any help would be great, fancy doing the job myself although if I were to get it wrong.....

if your not sure dont do it yourself..i would think £200-£250max should cover the t-belt and b-belt also get the alternator/air con belt done at the same time..some would say do the variator(twin spark) as well which will add another £100 to the job.

I changed the cambelt on my v6 and it took about eight hours.
You have to remove the inner wing and the fiddly plastic covers, mark all the pulleys (and the old cambelt, good for reference)slacken off the cambelt tensioner and take off the belt.
Feed the new belt on and do up the tensioner, be careful there is a proceedure for this and it needs to be done right. I found it on www.digest.net within a 164 section. I will dig it out if I can. You will also need a 41mm socket to turn the crank (a spanner is no good it doesn't fit). Turn the engine over by hand to check nothing touches (it easy to be a cog out on the crank) and try starting the engine.

The next I got my local garage to do it and it only cost £150.

Try Alfa Aid in Maidenhead on 01628 788887.

My advice is to book it in.

Have fun
Ian.
