Hello im a new alfa 147 owner and didnt know beforejoinging this forum about the issues regarding cambelts. The alfa ive got has 43k on the clock and im aware it is sensible to change the belts around the 36k mark. Ive recently got a quote from a local indie garage who quoted the following Timing belt idler and tensioner change for £254. Im by no means a mechanic and was hoping somebody could tell me if this would include everything i need when getting the belts changed as i dont want to be paying for any hidden extras.

Depends which engine you've got. Sonds like theyre just quoting for changing the belts and tensioner but might be missing the balance shaft belt and tensioner (only for 2.0). Also don't forget the auxilliary belt/tensioner.

You might want to mention the idlers, water pump and variator as well :D

Have a look here for an idea of costs from an well reputed Indie.

Can't quite match the price where I live (not far off) but it's a good benchmark.

Whereabouts are you in the country?

A for Alfa in Aylesbury is a very good indie, i believe he might also come out to do work, hes registered on this forum, try sending him a pm. Just had all the belts including the variator done on my 2.0 for 300 notes. Very good service.

I've just had a quote from my local indy Alfa specialist (Tewit Park Alfa - Harrogate).

They do all my servicing and MOTS.

The quote for Cambelt change with tensioner, aux belts, VARIATOR, and an oil and filter change was £397 inc VAT.

Do you guys think that's a good price?

Sounds OK to me...
