Hi
My 156 cut out yesterday at 40mph and now when i turn engine instead of stuttering noise of engine turning over its a constant whirring/whinning, if i stick it in gear and turn key the car jumps forward as usual,( does this mean engine is still turning?) the belt is intact but does not turn when i turn key. there was no noise when this happened like i would expect from a head failure, any ideas as i don't want to buy a new head for nothing!! The "injection system malfunction" warning light came on as i lost the engine too.
thanks guys
Deano

Sounds like your cambelt has failed.
The teeth have ripped off of the belt at the main pulley.

The engine will need a lot of work...
there will be many bent valves, etc..

I had this happen to em as well. The keyhole in the crank pulley cracked making the crank spin by itself even with the belt intact! Definately a valve and head job. Besides the crank pulley. Also get another new cam belt as it's not a good idea to keep the current one
