did he get the steel one made or did he buy it off the shelf? if he had it made then where did he get it made?

Just to add, cc yourcombustion chambers and do a proper three angle valve and seat grind, blending the sharp edges in. This will improve flow no end. Remember, "power is made in the head" I can't remember who said that, but I believe it to be true.

Yes DMF is to dampen vibrations. But then that gearbox is designed to be used with other engines, including diesels - never take a DMF off a diesel. If you are balancing the motor - and it is a petrol V6 not a diesel inline 4 - so your vibrations will be negligible.
For the Busso engine range, you could just use the 2.5V6 flywheel as it is the lightest of the range and will work on all. For the GM based clutch - I don't think there is off-the-shelf alternatives - ask Hennie where to have it made.

Roadrunner, they moved from Hermanstad to Sinoville, but I haven't been to them since. Maybe TN can help with their current location. Take it to them and let they sort it out, they have done this before.
Make it as light as possible, short of cutting holes in it. With high compression you will not notice the lack of smoothness below 1500 rpm.
The rubber in a dual mass flywheel does what the springs in a clutch plate does on a normal flywheel. That is why the clutch plates that is used with DMFs don't have springs. But it is a crap idea.

mmm so maybe i will be switching to SMF
just to be clear, i get a SMF and the balance the motor to work with the new fly right?

ok it seems the international folks are ignoring me haha so ill post on this thread from here on.
OK group huddle. Heres the plan, seeing as this SMF will turn out very expensive, i dont think im going down such a hardcore path, read up that the F40 gearbox almost always vibrates and chatters with a SMF so im not going to take that risk so once again i am forced to go where few men have gone before! i am going to lighten and balance my DMF!!

now i dont think this will shave off like 5kgs but im hoping to get close to atleast taking one kg off, in terms of spinning force 1kg can be a lot!
it probably wont make an outrageous difference but maybe give it just a liiitle bit more zing.
So what do you guys think? i know its not ideal but the VAG and BMW guys actually pull this move off so... its better than not doing anything to it at all.

How much does the whole thing weigh - what's your starting point?
I think you can get more thatn 1kg off. I think you can go more aggressive on the grind down - I say take it to an engineering shop.

You are on the right track Benzina, 1 kg on the outside is worth more than 3 kg on the inside.
You can cut the outside up to 1 mm from the threads.
You can cut 2 mm from the clutch surface and the location surface of the pressure plate. the distance from the one to the other must stay the same.

Thanks corrie! I also thought the outside is a bigger gain place than the inside due to rotational forces, just needed someone to back me up on this hahaha.
I dont know if i should do the flywheel or clutch surface? The Q4 finds clutches very tasty especially on take off so i need all the clutch i can get. And also i thought usually when the flywheel surface gets weared you can throw it away? Well thats atleast what people say when.your clutch is shot and started eating the flywheel.
I took it to the engineering shop yesterday and the guy there also suggested taking it closer to the thread hole so i approved. He reckons doing those two sections i planned on will shave off about 1.5kgs but i dont think it will be that much, that or im seriously underestimating this "pot yster" weight haha

Did you check won’t a Busso flywheel fit?
Busso DMF is the same weight the 2.5 is just over 7 and the GTA just over 6kg if I remember correctly.
Long ago I read a study that showed that 1kg of rotating mass removed equals 10kg total mass removed from the body when it comes to acceleration.
The study was performed on a old GTV6 if I remember correctly.

The 3.0 GTV did have DMF - most suggest to use the 156 2.5 V6 flywheel:
