cabin temperature sensor????

just changed the climate/heater control panel on my 156-the master (driver's side) temp selector control had stopped working-apart from that it all worked fine.
Now, the temp selector works as it should-numbers go up and down from 'Lo' to 'Hi'....but..with '16.5' selected, the air just gets warmer...and warmer...and warmer...until I'm sweltering.
Previously, the air would warm then get progressively cooler as selected temperature was reached, until there was a nice balance of warm air in the footwell and cooler air to the screen or vents.
Now-if I select 'Hi' for 30 seconds or so, then back to 16.5, I can feel the screen air go cooler for a short while (a minute or two) then get warmer....and warmer...etc...
WHY WHY WHY???????:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

What does the system think the outside temperature is? This is either in the Infocentre or (I think) the speedometer LCD when you press the Trip button (or something).

If the system thinks it's -21 degrees C outside, as mine often does, then it will tend to bias towards too much heat for any given temperature. It's a correction factor that it applies to avoid blasting cold air into the cabin.

Two are pretty much the same answer - calibration/ecu reset are basically the same idea.

The climate system uses motor controlled flaps to adjust air flow to all the different vents and to switch between cold/warm air - it may well be that the climate system hasn't got the correct position for the cold/warm air flap.

When I fixed mine (after the temp control stopped working) when I hooked the unit back up it you could hear all the air direction flaps moving about. I was told it they go through a calibration procedure when you first power them up and not to touch anything untill it was finished as it would interupt the calibration.

I would try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then re-connect it and I think that will cause the climate unit to re-calibrate itself - either that or go to a dealer and get them to re-set it.

in the center consoe under the heater dial is a small circular hole with bras over it, get a hoover and place the end of it over this hole and suck, this may clear the problem on it's own, otherwise you'll have to remove the center console and pull out this sensor below, there is a fan in the opposite end to my fingers which clogs up with dust and prevents air being drawn over the sensor tip thus giving a false reading.

Alfa Moo, you don't need to worry about this as it's your cars sensor i'm holding there. Did it whilst I removed that phone rubbish.

I had to unplug this sensor from the old unit and fit it to the new when I swapped them-and it was full of dust, which I blew clear. I can hear the little fan running when ign is on, so it's functioning, fan-wise....is there any way of testing resistances or anything like that? Before I spend (waste?) another 50-80 quid on yet another panel??

Have you tried the heater mixture control motor. It is on the side of the heater box in the drivers side. If you look up the side of the heater box and move the temp control knob you should see the spindle move. If not the motor may well have packed up. They are resonably common failure there are 2 motors on that side of the heater box both exactly the same one does temp and the other vent direction. These motors are around ÂŁ60 each and are fiddly to fit.

had the same problem with mine so I also purchased a replacement panel from the bay and it blew hot on every setting appart from low. Spoke to my local specialist who used to be the workshop controller for the lincoln dealership when we had one, he told me that there ws a batch of cars that came to the uk with the heater programed for use in norway so they had to reprogram the control panel. Did'nt fancy a drive to stoneacre so had a 2nd look at the original panel and found it was a 10min fix.
Quick note the sensor on the drivers side seems to split in 2 pieces and fall off, with carefull use of super glue and solder can be fixed so both temp dials work and no need to replace.
hope this of some help to anyone

Hot air only!!!! Unless set to Lo.

Any cure for this. As per other threads - all fine re direction motor. just constant hot air. Any conclusive answers as to this just being cabin temperature sensor? Two specialist garages have had a look at this, and both declared the heater system to be working perfectly. My axxe!!

Again, look at the wiring from the second coolant temp sensor which informs the climate control panel the temp of the coolant for cliamte control purposes. It is located on the hose that is between the rear of the engine and the firewall - just above the gearbox, it is green in colour, with my 156 1.9Mjet the wiring was damaged, and after fixing the wiring it all works perfectly!!!!
