Hi Guys

Something strange happened today.

Started the car after going in the boot, warning lights showed the rear fogs were on and the number plate lights had blown. Checked it out, the rear fogs were not on but the number plate lights were not working!.

Checked the fuses, all ok. Opened and re-shut the boot and they all went away!!!!

I cant find a connecting plate (old Atras used to have contacts for the lights) and never had this on the twinny.

Any ideas whats happening, are the two warning lights referring to one cable that may have been disturbed?

Oh, the damn injector light is coming on for longer periods so it will have to go on the diagnostics at Alfa for that!!

wrinxy,

dunno

i have had these lights come up as blown bulbs for me... and they were, no problems of them both coming up, i would expect all cables for the boot would be clustere together, so you never know there may be snagged somewhere and only catching a couplf of the cables...

i just think you gotta do that 'clean and check' the connections type thing.

sorry i ain't much use (nowt changed there then :) )

Hi guys

'tis indeed a strange occurence!!

Found out how to leave the lights on!! Took a while though, at least you cant leave them on by accident. Always liked the 155 the way it switches the lights on/off with ignition, dont know of any other cars doing this they tend to have warning buzzers instead.

Hmm...
I was brough up in Nottinghamshire and don`t ever remember anywhere private enough for that sort of thing!
Even a quick kiss usually had the local farmer driving past or a group of scouts on a walk or the local nuns field trip...
I wish I hadn`t asked now :p

clearly the 5 to 1 female to male ratio working in favour of us nottingham boys- the price to pay is privacy!! especially when you're in something as noticable as a 155!!!

don't copy the Robin Hood tights thing though, only ever caused me grief........ :D

My wifes 1993 Fiat ****** has the same setup. Turn the key backwards while pressing the button thingy. My old 1970's Toyota was the same !!!!

Remember I said I wasnt bothered about the fog light warning being lit?? Just realised (in the dark) that the lights are lit up at the back :(

So, not only do I not have number plate lamps, I'm blinding everyone as well. I can see plod coming now........guess what I'll be doing after the GP tomorrow :(

Well, today is turning into a pretty lousy day.

First, Schumacher didnt win the Grand Prix, some German car came in first :(

Second, I started to dismantle the car looking for a wiring problem, no luck so started to look more closely at what is happening.

The story gets wierder.......

removed the rear fog fuse........foglights still on, warning lamp still on!!

removed the rear fog relay......foglights still on, warning lamp still on!

Dismantled the left hand indicator stalk, nothing obviously wrong but I somehow lost the end button :(

Only way to switch off the rear fogs is to take the bulbs out, and I still havent got any number plate lights!

WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON!!!!!!!!!

Please help before I become a gibbering wreck.........

Hello All

My mates 1979 Fiat Strada had the same system for leaving the sidelights on by pressing the button on the ignition as did all my previous Fiats of various makes.

Regards

IF YA TAKEN FUSE OUT OF FUSE BOX THE FOG LIGHTS CANT POSSIBLY GET ITS POWER FROM ITS PROPER SOURCE.SO 2 POSSIBILITYS.
1. WRONG FUSE. :( UNLIKLY :D
2. YOUR WIRE LOOM IS MESSED UP SOMWERE,MAYBE TWISTED BEHIND SILL OR SOMWERE. IF INSULATION HAS STIRPED OFF YOUR LIVE FEED TO FOG LIGHTS CAN COME FROM ANYWERE.
TAKE YA FUSES OUT ONE AT A TIME UNTILL FOGS GO OUT. WHEN THEY DO , EVEN THOUGH FOGS SHOULD NOT BE ON THAT FUSE YOU WILL CORNER YOUR PROBLEM AND YA FIND OUT WERE YA POWER IS COMING FROM.
WELL ITS A START. :D

Ah the last post has really said it for me,the Fog lights are the nearest scource of power coming from a bad earth on either the tail lights or any combo in the rear.

Well, I gave up and took it to my usual techy.

It was indeed a bad earth. I had checked the cables going into the boot rubber, they looked fine but I didnt look far enough in. The wire had somehow cut right in the middle. So, now got reversing and number plate lights.

Fogs still dont work but think its down to the switch, it was a bugger to put back together so I probably got it wrong. It doesnt feel smooth anymore so the contacts must be out of line.......it can wait!!

Thanks for the help guys :)
