I don't think there is any reason to bite Steve.

What makes you think the EU will be the ones that come up with an antidote? If it's not the EU it makes no difference if we are in or out, and looking at the figure's I doesn't appear that the EU are handling this any better than we are.
It may not be someone working in a well funded lab that finds it, it may just as easily be someone in a mud hut somewhere, working on his or her own. When people say they are 12 months away from finding a vaccine they are talking rubbish, you don't know if you are about to find something, what you are looking for could be just around the corner or miles away, you really can't tell. Some of the most successful things have been found purely by mistake. So Trump wanting to buy vaccines that no-one has found yet, from people that may not be the ones who find it anyway just show's what a great leader he is.

Before you start accusing people of "talking rubbish" (in this case the people who will produce the vaccines telling how long it's likely to take) you should do a bit of research*.
It will not be someone in a mud hut "finding" a vaccine. Vaccines are not found, they are developed using a variety of known methods and techniques which must then be exhaustively tested for efficacy and safety before they can even start production. It will then take some time to produce over 7 billion doses as will be required.

The best form of defence, against the virus, that we have at the moment is simple soap and water.
When someone eventually discovers a vaccine it may be something just as simple, who knows it may even be something that is produced naturally. In which case producing over 7 billion doses may not be a problem.
Or it might turn out to be something quite simple and obvious, we just don;t know.
When these experts say it will take 12 months or more, the are guessing. They don't know what they are looking for yet, all they know is the effect they are after.

When the Guardian publishes a political article it always has a slightly left of centre flavour to it (obviously)
so if they can blame leaving the EU for something, they will.

This one is always a fascinating thread. Global effort to find a vaccine. There are truly world class labs working from the COVID-19 genome. The first vaccine could be from the UK, EU, China, US, or someplace else. It takes time, with approvals, trials, etc. I am an optimist so I think it will happen, hopefully sooner rather than later. In the meantime, we follow the rules and hope for the best. I got tickled with the mentioned of our loser leader Trump in this thread. Science will advance in spite of him. Stay well.

Mick’s kind of right. The flu vaccine is a simple method of triggering the immune system to develop antibodies to prevent the flu. Only prevent mind you.

The influenza vaccine is made using an egg-based production process. In this method of making influenza vaccines, manufacturers use fertilized eggs to grow flu viruses. After about six months of laboratory work and manufacturing, those viruses are incorporated into that season’s flu vaccine.

Once the vaccine is ready, it’s simply a matter of licensing the vaccine that would come under numerous brand names worldwide.

I can't help feeling there is something very wrong with people who do that sort of thing.
This isn't the first time a virus is suspected of coming from china (or more accurately the wet markets in Asia)
is there not something the world can do to stop this.
I realise it is something they have done for generations, and is probably thought of as normal to them.
But it effects and costs the whole world, not only finances but lives.

I suspect Brexit is the reason for the lateness of the lockdown and the refusal to close everything except pharmacies and food stores for 21 days in order to get a grip on this thing. I would rather have a short sharp shock than prolonged torture!

Brexit won’t finish us off at all. It will finish the arrogant unelected superstate.

Germany benefit from a artificially weak currency to boost their expensive exports. Smaller Eastern European countries hold their hands out. Everyone in between gets no benefit.

If every country in the eu had a referendum like we did. The EU wouldn’t exist.

The EU is a closed market with ridiculous taxes. That is why they are scared of free trade with other countries and want us to align with their ridiculous rules for a trade deal.

Imagine if we could buy from the USA without ridiculous import duty and vat on the cost of items and delivery.

How is it that European products are cheaper to buy from the USA including shipping before they add EU tax and duty? The answer is simple.

Italy will probably be next to leave. France is burning even if the BBC won’t show us. Then you have the issue on the Greek border.

I love Europe but hate the EU. Divisive media try to make hating the eu, the same as hating Europe.

The same way you’re instantly shouted down as “racist“ if you raise genuine, sensible concerns around Islamic immigration. It’s pathetic.

Oh no. It’s starting up again!
I'm not one to argue mate. Just amazes me that people confuse Europe and the EU.

Everyone should be able to see the EU for what it is. A failed socialist (communist) experiment.

One example. We paid for the factories to be built in Poland, so Cadbury’s American owners could relocate there and close a historical factory in Birmingham.

Eastern countries who have benefited massively from this communism are now rejecting the left, woke ideals the west is trying to force onto them. And rightly so.

The fact they want a army and are planning to hoover up former Soviet Union countries is the biggest threat to world peace since WW2.

I trust Europe would not fall into a state of war if we were all sovereign nations with a free trade deal. To suggest otherwise (as many do) is absurd.
