The Cup went into Lysle's today for a 48k service. I had a dream last night, that the loan car was a red Brera. Unfortunately, I hadn't even turned a wheel before waking up. Well I woke up this morning, thinking it would be unreasonable to expect such a car, but wondering just what the loaner would be. I pulled up outside the garage, eyeing up a good looking 156 on the opposite side of the road, a teledialled 147 was on the forecourt. I strolled in, thinking that I'd be happy with either of those.

Anyway, this is what I took home! One way of making sure you collect your car on time I suppose.

Yeah, it got me home anyway! The Alfa feels like an F1 car after a day driving the Ka.
which is exactly why they give you a ka ... if they gave you a ferrari then when you got into your car it would feel rubbish ..

My Courtesy car at my local Alfa, for my Brera is... a Mitsubishi Colt :tut:

Apparently the Owner is too tight to release a MiTo for a courtesy :tut:

Colt for a Brera

Ka for a Cup

It's just not right. I would have been more than happy with a Mito, which would have helped me convince Mrs M69 that this is a far nicer car than the new Pug 207 she has her eye on!

A bad ride is better than a good walk!

How did you get on with Lyles?
Glad you were happy with them mate. As you know i live maybe a mile from there so will keep them in mind in the future!
I thought Lysles seemed pretty good. Ian the service manager is very knowledgable and not at all pushy. Good communication throughout the day, and on collection, reception staff knew exactly what had been happening with the car. £187 for a 48k service, without a new airfilter, cos it's an Autodelta one (I didn't know that before the service). Not sure how that compares for value, but I wanted to keep up with the dealer/specialist service history.

When I got my paintwork done at the local Alfa/Vauxhall place, I got a Vauxhall Corsa. Quite possibly the worst car I've ever driven
SNAP!! Did you have the 1.0 Litre?

I had to drive one of them back from Stafford (170+ Miles) and I thought it was going to blow up!

Alfa Whitequay always used to give me nice courtesy cars when I had the 156.

Had a new Alfa GT and Saab 9-3 1.8 T (Herscher version), as it was a joint Saab/Alfa dealership.

I was offered an Alfa 90 courtesy car once. Not good.

Gears crunching. Petrol fumes in cabin. Rough, uncomfortable ride.

My 156 2.0 JTS at the time never sounded or handled better after that experience.

I would totally love an Alfa 90 courtesy car, especially over a Ford Ka or Mitsubishi Colt!
Gears crunching? Wait for the gearbox to warm up / shift slower / learn double clutching.
Petrol fumes in cabin? Wind down windows.
Rough, uncomfortable ride? That's Italian for 'sporty'.
I go to considerable expense for the sake of the above, but you had a perfect opportunity to ponder the appeal of an.. ahem.. rare classic Alfa, without having to buy and maintain it!;)
